High Quality
These replaced some sketchy Sperzel tuners on a tele style guitar. The Hipshots are great. Smooth and accurate, and they hold tune well. The universal mounting plate makes installation easy. Just make sure your headstock is drilled for 10mm holes.

Best locking tuners on the market.
I replace the tuners on almost all of my guitars with locking tuners. Hipshot open gear tuners are my favorite. They're smooth and stable and the open gears look cool. But the main reason I use hipshot, is for the universal mounting plate. I love that I don't have to alter the headstock no matter what type of tuners were originally on it. It makes installation take slightly longer than a normal string change. Hipshot makes high quality gear.

These are now my "go to" tuners. 18:1, staggered, AND locking!
Bought these for a Dean NashVegas Hum Hum that had some tuning issues. Found that the "Tuner pin drill jig" I had purchased from Stewmac ($40.72) worked for the screw position needed for these tuners although this brand isn't mentioned as one of the ones it was designed for. I couldn't use the universal mounting plate included with the tuners because the head stock was too thick. And even though they are staggered, I decided to keep the string trees to help keep the string angle as consistent as possible. One of the problems with this guitar is the short distance between the nut and the low E string tuning post (common on six to a side guitars). But these tuners are smooth as silk and no "slop" in them. They may be out there but these are the only reasonably priced 18:1 ratio, staggered, locking tuners I could find. And the open gears look very cool and I like that I can use a light machine oil right on the gears (3-in-1 oil, etc.). And $40 seems like a lot for a jig but it's saved my butt and made my life easier many times. These are great tuners!

Probably the best tuners I've used regardless of price
I put a set of these on a Jag I finished up a few weeks ago and I'm thoroughly impressed. I used the mounting plates for install because even w/ a drill press and depth stop bits it's still a time consuming pain drilling those holes and the plates seem to provide secure and well aligned mounting w/ just the bushings clamping the tuners down. The action of the tuners is super smooth and accurate feeling w/ zero slippage and the button shape is very comfortable and effective. They seem quicker to tune w/ for me than I would expect from the 18:1 ratio. I think they look great too. I've liked them so much on the Jag I've got another set of these (and one of their Contour strat bridges) on the way for the next build.

Love these Hipshot tuners
This was without a doubt the easiest and cleanest time I've had installing a set of tuners! The mounting plate worked perfectly to mount them to a MiM Strat neck in half the time, with no issues lining them up and no drilling. The tuning itself is easy, smooth, and accurate. I had another set of Hipshot locking tuners on a different guitar I built and found myself wanting them again on my main guitar - zero regrets there, these are every bit as good.

these are very heavy machines.
I put these on a telecaster that has a decent weight to it, but these machines are so heavy that it actually caused neck dive on the guitar. I love that you can mount them with stability because of the metal plates that hold the machines in place without requiring any drilling. the weight is a problem on this guitar. Perhaps a Les Paul would provide enough counter balance for it not to make a difference. That being said they work brilliantly, and they look very sharp.

Top notch.
Great product & top quality. I recommend using these if you don't have a locking nut, otherwise you don't need them.
