Excellent, plug and play for E46 M3.
Excellent alternator and great price. Plug and play. M3 installation was a bit longer and tedious, not due to this item one bit, BMW makes it a tight fit.

Came in defective - clearly they do no bench testing before shipping these!
Take these things in to get bench tested before spending the time to install them. The factory clearly cannot be bothered to do this.When the alternator arrived, I was excited because it looked so new and clean - I had doubts that it was a remanufactured unit. But then I noticed that the spindle would not turn by hand. I knew something was wrong, but I'd hoped that this was normal and I already had shop time reserved. Sure enough after installing this alternator, the brand new belt was unable to turn it. Ordered a second unit and upon inspection, its spindle spun without any resistance. I wonder how many hands touched my first unit before it was boxed up. Clearly nobody along that line gave any care about checking their product.
