The Best Rear Saddle Bag Out There!
The wedge under your rear bicycle seat has a humble function--to transport the stuff you need to get back on the road in case you get a flat or another mechanical problem. You wouldn't think making one would be rocket science, but, in fact, these items do actually differ significantly one from the other. Most I've used are decently well made, but the difference is in the little extra things you might not have thought to ask about before you pick one up! PROS *Perfect size. Like Goldilocks: not too big ,not too small, just right! A small-size pack is not going to hold everything you need and a larger one is not going to fit neatly under the seat. When packed carefully, this holds: two extra tubes (when I ran over some briar thorns in California and instantly created Swiss cheese out of TWO tubes I realized, really, you need two!), patch kit, three tire irons, a multi-tool and $20 extra cash. *Attachment to the top portion of the seat uses velcro strips and buckles rather than a plastic "T." At first I liked the plastic T design, but I later realized this design can be very easy to install under some seats and a pain (possibly even impossible) under others. I would rather have one that won't create an issue if I switch it to another bike or get a new saddle. *Two nice elastic rings under the wedge for additional storage. I use it for the Lezyne Pressure Drive Hand Pump . Wow, amazing...you don't need a pump on your frame if you use this combination of products! *An attachment point on the rear for a light. Since I occasionally ride at night (sometimes unexpectedly if my ride goes longer than expected) this is a MUST HAVE. I simply put a red flasing LED light on the back of my wedge pack and if I need it, I switch it on. Really, there's no reason a wedge pack should ever be built without this attachment and thank you, Topeak, for understanding that. *Zipper appears strong and I expect it will take abuse. I abuse it by riding in rain, packing bag tightly etc. I will post if it ever breaks, if not, you can figure it is still going strong! CONS *Doesn't come in pretty colors. This replaces a really pretty blue one which matched my bike...but that saddlebag didn't have many of the features of this one, so out it goes. I also want to give a tip for those who were disappointed that wallet, cell phone and keys don't fit in this along with your emergency supplies. The purpose of this bag is not to hold that stuff. It's darn inconvenient since this type of bag is not designed to be easily opened to pull out one or two things and it's not designed for easy-off, easy-on if you go into a store. What you want is something in the handlebar bag family, for example, I have this one: Sunlite Handle Bar Bag, 2011 Model, Small, Black . You can put your wallet, keys, a snack and cell phone in here. If you have to lock your bike and go inside, you take it off in just a few seconds and carry it with you.

More Form Fitting Than Other Seat Bags
I had difficulty deciding between this Topeak seat bag and the Avenir Bigmouth Velcro Seat Bag (Large- 73/106 Cubic Inches) . I also had difficulty deciding between the medium and large size Topeak seat bags. I wanted the largest seat bag I could get but I didn't want the chance that it would rub on my legs while pedaling. For certain, Topeak's website and catalog have a dizzying array of seatbags. I would have preferred the Aero wedge that has the "fixer" (the plastic connection to the seat), but I read far too many reviews stating that the plastic breaks far too easily. In the end, I'm glad I chose the large Topeak seat bag for my Trek DS 8.5 hybrid with stock seat. It fits perfectly under the seat and doesn't interfere while pedaling (see update below). The straps hold it very tightly to the underside of the seat and to the seatpost. The bag also has flexibility that allows it to be shifted in a downward direction on the seatpost rather than hanging the bulk of the bag from the bottom of the seat. For example, since my seatpost is rather high, I can shift the bulk of the bag onto the seatpost. I think it's better than the Avenir Bigmouth bag for one reason: The Topeak's cornucopia shape allows it to hug the seatpost a little better whereas the Avenir Bigmouth, to me, just looks like a big chunk hanging underneath the seat. The bag has a zippered expandable section. With the bag in its fully open position, I can fit the following items (see my additional uploaded pictures): IceToolz Steel Tire Levers Set, 3 Piece 2 valve adapters ( Kool Stop Brass Card/12 PV Valve Adaptor (Pack of 12) ) inside the patch kit Innovations Air Chuck Elite Inflator including sleeve and CO2 cartridge 3 additional 16-gram CO2 cartridges 3" Pocket knife Replacement 29er tire tube 2 AA batteries in plastic storage case for my GPS 4 AAA batteries in a plastic storage case for my Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 1W LED Tail Light 2 CR123 batteries in a plastic storage case for the Fenix PD30 flashlight/headlight Fenix PD30R2 6 Level 235 Lumen LED Flashlight Beretta 84FS small frame pistol in holster (biggest item by far in the bag) Park Tool VP-1 Vulcanizing Patch Kit Driver's license & other identification and a little cash in a tiny envelope There's a bit more room to spare for a couple more items the size of CO2 cartridges, but there's no room left for a sandwich, wallet, or snack bar. One minor gripe. With the bag tight against the seat bottom, it's a little difficult to get the zipper open. Other than that, I'm so pleased with the bag that I also bought one for my wife's bike. Update: After getting more comfortable with the bike, I decided to adjust the stock seat forward for better posture. My legs now do touch the bag a bit while pedaling since I'm not able to move the bag toward the rear as far as I used to. I guess your mileage may vary depending on how your seat is positioned, and different seat bags that hang further back rather than snaking down the seatpost are probably less likely to interfere while pedaling. See extra uploaded pictures for a "top down" view of the bag under the seat. To solve this problem, I put two heavy duty zip strips at the appropriate height on my seat stem. This prevents the bottom velcro from sliding down the stem further than I wish. It works perfectly and prevents the bag from getting in the way of my legs while pedaling. Also, be careful when carrying a lot of weight and attempting to use this on mountainbiking trails. After carrying the items listed above on intermediate singletrack for about 15 miles, the rear seam of the bag ripped. (See additional uploaded picture). I foresee no problem when using this bag on smooth trails, but--depending on the weight you're carrying--it might not be sturdy enough for offroad trails. I repaired my bag with heavy duty black quilting thread and just kept on trucking.

Great medium size seat pack
I've had this back strapped to my bike for three years now. I purchased the one with two straps because I wanted to avoid the plastic clip. This is a great pack and holds a lot. I like the cornucopia shape; the large opening makes it easy to use the pack. The velcro straps work well keeping the pack attached to the bike. I don't have any problems with it moving around or rubbing against my legs when I ride. The back of the pack has a strap sewn onto it so you can attach a light/reflector if you wish. In my pack I have a spare inner tube, a large multitool, an innertube patch kit and two tire levers. There is a mesh pocket on the rear flap that is great for holding small extras. I put a spare battery and a work gadget that is a bit smaller than a lighter. I also can fit my Razor phone in here too. I commute to/from work fairly regularly so I open/close it often. The zipper is very sturdy. I have yet to try it in expanded mode. This pack is well constructed and roomy. The large mesh pocket is very nice feature. I highly recommend this pack. Edit: I'm taking away one star because this is not waterproof. I rode home on slightly wet roads and noticed there was wetness inside when I took out my cell phone. I still like the pack though; it holds a lot.

A snazzy little bag, it fits below my saddle easily using two straps and one velcro strap around the seat post. I managed to attached my ass saver underneath it too. The rest light attachment point is stable. There is room inside for a spare time, multi tool, tape, puncture repair kit with tyre leavers and space for some snacks and my keys. You can also extend the size with the zip on the side. It feels very solid and the zips feel sturdy.
