Great for early-starters to potty training.
It's not my favorite of the potty-training books in my house, but it is one of my 13-month-old's favorites. She loves to point at the baby and say, "Baby!" It's on-level for her attention span, and she loves to flip through it on her own. She would give it 6/5 stars. 4/5 for me; but that's simply because I prefer the funnier ones. So, we're compromising and giving it 5 stars.

Perfect!
This is the only potty-related book we have bought our sixteen-month-old daughter (so far). We've had it for about two weeks. It sits on a stand right next to her Baby Bjorn potty chair (which she has already successfully used twice!). She sits on her chair and reads this book several times per day. She loves it!Some things about this book:The pictures are very simple, so they aren't overstimulating. The child in the book is gender neutral. The author also doesn't use the words "she", "he", "boy", "girl". The story is written from the child's point of view, and the child always says "I". This makes it very nice if you have multiple children to potty train or plan on keeping the book for multiple children. The sentences are all short and to the point, perfect for toddlers to understand. This book doesn't use the words "poop", "pee", or anything like that. That makes it easy to teach your child the words you want him/her to say regarding bodily functions.I love the final page of the book. The are tons of drawings of "undies" (the author's word) in boy and girl styles. We already bought our daughter some "big girl undies" (one pair sits with the book to help reinforce the picture). There is just enough humor to keep the book from being too serious, but not so much that it makes the book completely comical. This book will not potty train your child (that's your job), but it will help reinforce what you are trying to teach. Not to mention, it gives you both something fun to do while you are waiting. This is one of those books that I don't mind reading to my daughter hundreds of times. It's easy to add some of your own dialogue to the book. That keeps it from getting boring, since I try to change it up every time I read it.

Positive, child-centered book for little kids who are considering the potty
This book is about a little kid who realizes he needs to pee. He considers what animals do (kitty uses a litter box, while doggy pees in the yard), and debates what he should do himself. Should he go in his diaper, as he has in the past? Or should he try to use the potty this time? He decides to give it a go on the potty. After sitting patiently for a long time, he is finally successful. His mommy and daddy are excited, and presumably they live happily ever after, etc.As a parent, I liked that this is a very child-centered book. It is not about parents trying to potty-train a child. It is about a child making deciding for himself that he would like to use the potty, working through the idea, giving it a try, struggling, and ultimately succeeding. The parents are only shown at the very end of the book, celebrating the child's success. This book is simple, colorful, and fun. It addresses many concerns relevant to a child, including:-Deciding whether to use diapers vs. potty-Boredom associated with sitting on the potty while waiting for the pee or poop to come out.-Humor. The child initially sits down on the potty with his diaper still on, then remembers to take it off. A toddler who has been introduced to how the potty works will be amused by this rookie mistake.-More humor. The child dozes off on the potty, only to be awakened by the noises "Tinkle, tinkle, TOOT!" as his pee and poop comes out. If you are 2 years old, this is hysterical.-The eventual milestone of getting to wear big-kid underpantsRECOMMENDED AGE RANGE: 1-2 years. Due to it's simplicity and the baby-like appearance of the protagonist, this is great book for younger potty-trainers. For a child who is late to training (age 3), other books like Joanna Cole's "My Big Boy Potty" / "My Big Girl Potty" would be more appropriate.
