Super good quality but expensive
There's nothing quite like this jar! It's thick and sturdy, and I love the flip lid, which makes it easy to seal. I have nine of them now, and I'll continue to buy them. They are fantastic!I use them to make Communion wine the way my great grandmother used to. It's crucial to have a large, tight-sealing jar for the fermentation. I'm also getting into fermented vegetables now.The downside is that they are so expensive. I don't really understand why they are. I guess it's a glass thing. I normally can only afford to buy one or two at a time, although I really need more.I also think they should send extra gaskets with the jars. I learned the hard way to always have spares on hand. Nearly ruined my wine when two older seals cracked with the pressure. I reckon they need to be replaced about every year or after a longer use. I usually keep my jars sealed for a couple of years, so I'll be replacing them after every use now.

Lots of Sourdough Starter Now! :-)
I simply needed a container to keep much more sourdough around while baking during the holiday season. This is 90% perfect for that. The wire "trap" at the top is great for cracking the pot so the yeastie beasties can breathe and grow. When I ordered, I was hoping to use the jar as a cookie jar when I'm not baking two or three sourdough loaves a day. I will be able to use the jar as a cookie jar but it will be a secondary jar as the mouth is to small to get my hand into comfortably. What I will do is load overflow cookies into this jar and then transfer the cookies , perhaps by pouring, into the primary jar.It occurred to me that I didn't see a good reason to pour the sourdough starter into bowl, add ingredients there, stir there, and then transfer back to the canning jar. Why not just mix everything in the jar? One less dirty bowl. Only one problem: the dough whisk, [...], wouldn't fit through the jar's mouth. I had to bend the whisk from its circular shape into a slightly oval shape. The whisk and jar work fine now.Despite the minor short comings, I give the jar five stars which Amazon states that it means "I love it."

My First Fido Jar and Definately Not My Last
I got this Jar to make Sun Hibiscus Tea. After I ordered it a friend said that sun tea might let bacteria grow in it, so i'm gonna have to check that out first. The jar is well made with nice thick glass, but i'm wondering about suddenly filling it with boiling water for tea and making it shatter. I may have to put it in hot water first. The jar arrived well packaged from Bonters. The jar was smaller than I thought it would be, which is good. But It's just a little too big for my refridgerator door. It measures about 6 1/4 inches wide. I poured water in it with my large pyrex measuring cup and it holds 4 liters. The 4 liter canning jar lists at 6 inches wide on another site and should fit my door. It's easy to handle and clean. I have small hands and I can just squeeze my hand into it for cleaning without a lot of force. I like being able to remove the lid easily for cleaning.I poured water in it with my large pyrex measuring cup and it holds 4 liters. All in all i'm very happy that I found these nice, large, sealable, jars.

Sturdy, well-made, Italian product.
I was looking for a new sun tea jar after my daughter's ex-boyfriend broke the one I had for over 30 years. :( He replaced it with an el-cheapo model from Walmart, that instantly broke at the spout. The second one I replaced it with got a hairline crack in the glass and broke open while out in the sun (patio tea everywhere). I have an assortment of Bormioli Rocco jars on my countertop for my grains and they're awesome, so when I saw this I knew I had found my bucket list sun tea jar. So far it's been as wonderful as the other jars I have. Highly recommend this line of products!

Nice and sturdy
Big bottle of Bormioli Rocco Fido Clear jar! The GLASS looks very sturdy to me and I like the quality. Comes with a lid that closes well and protects from air, makes it perfect for storing food items. It is not so good for storing Flour, sugars, etc because the mouth of it is pretty narrow, though I am able to put my hand inside, just difficult to get it out when holding something else inside. Otherwise its a great container!Just a caution, this big jar does not fit in most of my shelves, so I put it on the ground at the corner of my kitchen or when in use over the counter top.

Great but afraid:O
I love this glass jar so much. When I opened my Amazon box, I realized that it was made in Italy. It truly is wonderful. I have to point out that it has a thin glass wall, so, you need to treat it carefully (that's what concerns me). Nevertheless, it did travel from Italy to Amazon headquarters then to Chicago, so, it certainly held up well.I purchased mine to make sun-tea. It does a great job and I've put it through my dishwasher a few times and there hasn't been a problem (no cracks, no ships, no discoloration...)Have Fun and Enjoy. All the best toYou and Yours,RL M

Great jar
I purchased these jars to make liniment that needed to be aged. I had experience with screw top jars that got stuck when the liniment got on the threads, and in one case, actually ate through a metal lid. No such problem with these jars - sometimes there is some suction action that holds the top on, but I can usually pop it off. I had one jar that didn't seem like it was going to seal properly, but after the seal got a little wet, it worked fine. Jars have a good solid feel. Gallon jars are not that easy to find, so I was happy to find these.

Bought these to make sun tea and they work great
I bought these glass jars to make sun tea and they're perfect for that. They hold slightly more than 1 gallon and the seal the rubber gasket makes is airtight. They are surprisingly easy to lift and maneuver when full and the quality of the glass is very nice. Very solid, doesn't feel thin or brittle. I'd definitely recommend them for anyone who wanted to use them for sun tea or any type of canning.
