Sharp, Precise, and More Versatile Than Expected
This little cutter really surprised me. The Hakko CHP-170 is very sharp and incredibly easy to maneuver, making it perfect for precise work in tight spaces. I originally picked it up for electronics projects, but I’ve found myself reaching for it constantly—it’s useful for everything from trimming zip ties to small crafting tasks. The build quality feels solid, and the spring-loaded action makes it comfortable for extended use. Way more versatile than I expected for such a small tool.A great addition to any toolbox. Highly recommended.

Cuts flush to surface, oxide can chip, satisfying spring action
Excellent tool, makes me happy using it. Perfectly grippy handle. Great spring action. Seems very reliable. The black coating on cutter surfaces is already chipping a bit though, from trimming electrical component leads. But the feel in hand feels satisfying to me. This will truly cut things flat to the surface, very precisely, if you want it to. Amazing quality for the price.

Sometimes cheaper is better!
Let me start by saying I have become very skeptical of reviews. Sometimes people put a rating as soon as they get something ... sometimes they don't know how to use it ... sometimes ....I very seldom put up a review, but after a couple weeks of using these cutters, I had to say something. I bought three sets of cutters ranging from $6 to $24. These were the cheapest and so far the best!I am a machinist by trade but build control panels for a living. I bought these to replace some cheap older ones. When I first got them, I had my doubts ... but I was wrong! They are light but that makes them easy to handle. They are relatively small but they fit my hand well. I have only used them to trim electrical parts (resistors, capacitors, ..) and to cut stranded wire ... so far they work great. The cutters are sharp and the jaws align well. The slightly blunt tip allowed me to push into the sheath of a three conductor cord and cut the outer insulation without cutting the inner conductors (the cord cost $250 and I needed to be very very careful). The cutters are slightly angled and cut flush ... they work great! I think they will also work great for hobby work like building plastic models.I have a Hakko soldering iron that is now about 25 years old ... still going strong. If these Hakko cutters last half as long, I will be super happy!I now have four in my tool collection.Sometimes cheaper is better!

Weird pricing, decent cutters
Very oddly priced. One is $5, a pack of two is $15, pack of three is $21. So if you want more than one, and they are cheap enough to have a spare in case one breaks or the jaw chips, just buy multiple 1-packs.Even though they are made in CHINA, the jaws seems well-ground, and they align well. Ideal tool for flush-cutting small wires and zip ties so they don't leave a sharp tail. They work smoothly and fit the hand well. How long they last remains to be seen, but especially for something as low-stress as cutting plastic wire ties, they should last. If not, you're only out $5.Or the Klein is nice, and it's made in USA, for $13-14.

Precision Cutter That’s Perfect for 3D Printing
The Hakko CHP-170 Flush-Cut Micro Soft-Wire Cutter is hands-down one of the best tools I’ve added to my 3D printing setup. Originally meant for electronics, it works incredibly well for trimming filament, supports, and those annoying little stringy bits you get on detailed prints. The 8mm long angled jaw gives me excellent precision, and the flush-cut design makes cleanup look super clean — almost like the model came off the printer perfect. I really appreciate the 21-degree reverse angle; it makes it easy to get into tight spots without cutting too close or damaging surrounding areas.Built with 2.5mm heat-treated carbon steel, this tool feels sturdy and durable, yet it’s light in the hand. The spring action makes repetitive work much easier, and the movement is super smooth thanks to the precision-ground surfaces. The dolphin-style grips are comfortable even during long print cleanup sessions, and the non-slip coating really does make a difference. Plus, the Parkerized finish not only prevents glare but helps keep corrosion at bay — a small but thoughtful touch.Whether you're clipping wires or cleaning up your latest 3D masterpiece, this cutter performs flawlessly. It’s precise, comfortable, and built to last. Highly recommended for makers, hobbyists, and anyone who needs sharp, reliable cuts.

I Love These!
Where has this tool been all my life!?!? This is really worth the money, especially if you work on guitar electronics. The tool can reach in to very tight places to make precision cuts and trim excess solder or wire. They are well made and very sharp. I hope I never lose mine but I'll won't hesitate to immediately order another pair.

This cutter is hard to beat
The Hakko CHP-170 Micro Soft Wire Cutter has been a fantastic addition to my toolbox. The sharp blades make clean, precise cuts on small-gauge wires—perfect for electronics, hobby projects, and general light-duty work. The spring-loaded handles and comfortable grip mean less hand fatigue, even after extended use. I’ve used them for everything from trimming leads on circuit boards to cutting zip ties, and they haven’t let me down yet. The blades still close tightly with no signs of dulling or misalignment.
