There's no beating this U.S.-built classic
MagLite continue to march to their own drummer with their high-quality American-made flashlights. I've had a few less expensive LED flashlights the past few years, and they've had nowhere near the build quality and solid feel of this classic. If you're familiar with the decades-old incandescent MagLite Mini, you pretty much know how this looks and feels, now with better battery life and much brighter light. As the LED is a somewhat larger point-source of light, focusing isn't quite as dramatic, but still functional. The much appreciated "candlestick" feature for emergency/battery-powered room lighting (removing the head to use as a base for holding the flashlight upright) works better than ever. One slightly sour note for incandescent AA Mini owners - some of the accessories from my old AA Minis don't quite fit the LED model. The head seems very slightly smaller, so, e.g., the anti-roll/filter-holder ring doesn't stay on securely. That's too bad, I think an unnecessary change that prevents re-use of otherwise serviceable parts. If you keep that in mind, you won't be disappointed - this is a great upgrade to an already fine product.

My second 2AA battery 'Pro' LED Maglite
Recently misplaced my year-old black AA LED Pro Maglite and bought red this time so it might be easier to find under the car seat or outside. These 'Pro' small LEDs are exceptionally bright and impressive. Batteries (two included in the package) last quite long versus older technology. I have two older 3D cell Maglites and this little LED seems just as bright and a whiter white beam. Note that this unit doesn't really focus as a spot light versus flood light like the big models, but it is perfect out in the yard or on an evening walk. Oncoming cars definitely will see you. Oh, the day the new flashlight arrived I found the black AA unit under the car seat on a black carpet, so now have two.

Maglite - Still the best cure for the Flashlight “Fetish”!
Remember being in 8th grade in the late 80s and lusting after the Mini Maglite, getting one and marveling at the construction and design. Fast Forward almost 40 years and I have bought so many different flashlights with so many features. Some are rechargeable, some use CR-123 batteries, some have headbands, some have lasers. Many I’ve inadvertently dropped and broken. I believe some have broken from excessive fidgeting. The Maglite is like the reliable old friend. Despite my Flashlight Acquisition Disease (“FAD”), it has all that I need. Overall, I like the simplicity and design of the Maglite and lack of gimmick. I know whether it’s in my toolbox or jammed in my vehicle somewhere it’s gonna work if the batteries are good. I bought the Red color barrel LED version and show it side by side with my older black barrel non-LED version. It’s about 1/2 inch longer, but almost unnoticeable. If you have any holster or sheath for an original mini, it the same width. For its size, the LED gives enough light for the tasks I’d use it for. Setting up camp, under hood, etc. it is a frequent companion to a multi-tool on my belt. I expect the same reliability and longevity as the original. YMMV.

Mini super-nova in your hand.
I am very hard on flashlights in my line of work. I could wear out a standard Mini Mag in 6 months. Got tired of tapping the old style Mini Mag to get it to work or taking it apart and fixing the problem only to have it come back a few days later. It would crap out when I needed it the most. By the time you paid the outgoing shipping and the required handling fee from Maglite, you almost have the cost of a new one. So, I decided to take the step up to LED. I cant vouch for durability yet as I haven't had it very long. What I can vouch for it the output of the light. Substantially better than the old style. Intense white light that easily illuminates 100+ feet!! The focus is not as pinpoint as the old style but since most of my work is close up, it really hasn't been an issue. The LED Mini is about 1-1/2" longer than the old style but still fits fine in my custom made Leatherman/Maglite holster. I notice it does get warm when used for a while but nowhere near uncomfortable. Now, I will see how well it stands up to the rigors of daily use.

Favorite flashlight
Have used the maglite for years. This is the new one, a little too whiteish bright. Liked old bulbs best. Still handy, perfect size and illuminates way across the yard.

Great light!
Love that it has two setting! the full power that has lasted me about 2 hours and the 25% setting that will last longer. so when you turn on it will be at full power and if you want the 25% twist it on then off and back on quickly! also love that it still has the candle mode where you can take the head off and put the tail in it and have an area light!

Solid utterly reliable. I have never had one fail.
I have owned easily a done of these. I have never had a failure. Batteries last so long that I often have no clue why they stopped working. I do lose them. They are solidly constructed and vèry bright. I often carry one not just for light, but also because they make a nice impact self-defense weapon. Hold them in your hand with the light end towards attacker so your hand does not slip off the end.

Great Flashlight
I've always liked MagLite flashlights but they are getting harder to find in stores. If you don't mess with the bulbs, they'll work just fine. The minute you mess with something from the factory, you can kiss the whole flashlight goodby. It'll never work again the way it came from the factory. They have wonderful adaptable accessories like filters, lanyards and clips. They probably should have come with these items already but it is what it is. I have upgraded my older dull bulbs Mini Maglites to LED mini mag lights and probably will be the last of these. I carry these in my briefcases. Done, Done and Done. I love my new LED’s.
