Merriam-Webster Children's Dictionary, New Edition: Features 3,000 Photographs and Illustrations

Book arrived on time very pleased good value for money

It’s a heavy book, similar in size to Encyclopaedia volumes but incredibly engaging for a child to read. It has a great mixture of words both simple and complex for ages up to approx 10 years of age (for a child with good reading level skills but easily bored with the old fashioned dictionary types!) It’s also a good general resource with maps, flags, grammar reference points etc.

This is a high quality and beautifully presented book, which I am sure most children would love. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is simply that it is so big, it is difficult, in practice, for my child to use. It weighs a lot and takes up a fair bit of space. Perhaps this is what is to be expected for a children’s dictionary, while adults use much smaller versions. However, it does mean that in practice we don’t use it as much as I think we should.

The book is great, Amazon UK is not. I bought this wonderful book for my niece in Sweden. As it turns out, Amazon UK was very happy to take my money for postage, when all the time there was an Amazon Sweden available. At no point did Amazon UK alert me to this situation. They happily, and deceptively, took my money to pay for the products AND postage.

Just the right balance of pictures to entries. I deal for a child in late Primary / early Secondary

Perhaps a little on the heavy side for a 6 year old, but she loves it.
