Krokbragd: How to Design & Weave [Greenlaw, Debby] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Krokbragd: How to Design & Weave Review: A delightful and precious guide - I just love the straightforwardness, layout, advice, colors and projects of this book! Methods and hints are explained in a simple manner, with many, many color photos, diagrams and examples. No headaches trying to understand dense, cryptic text. Each time I take a look at a section, such as approaches for the selvages, recommended yarn and sett combinations or designing patterns, I grin with happiness that I own this book. I've sampled different patterns and will be ready to make a table runner as soon as my loom is freed up! I also am waiting for my 8 shaft table loom to arrive, which will be perfect for the project that has little sheep and red barns. I appreciate the range of project complexity! Review: Great book - Learning this method of weaving. Great resource.

Best & only book on krokbragd!
I do reviews for my weaving guild. Buying most of them on Amazon is the way to go. It is a book for beginner's as well as advanced weavers. The author has written very clear instructions about the weave as well as provide patterns to utilize krokbragd and weave lovely textiles. There is also a section on using rigid-heddle loom which is the beginner loom of the moment. It is well documented with history, colorful photos and how-to. The photos are a great adjunct for a visual person that needs photos for instruction.

OMG! No Buyer Remorse Here!!!
I typically don't write reviews on books related to arts/craftsy/hobbies because i'm kinda hard to please and it's really a fault of mine and rarely the authors so i keep my thoughts to myself.......... well not this time. I love this book. i just got it today and i've already read the entire book. i'm a newer weaving (weaving for 8 months) and this book has so much detail on how to do what looks complex with ease. the directions are clear, concise, and the pictures are clear and inspiring. if this is a style of weaving you'd like to try jump on this book, trust me, you won't regret the purchase.

Fabulous resource for your textile arts library
I am so pleased to add this resource to my bookshelf. I have read the book cover to cover and feel many of my lingering questions have been answered. I adore this book, it will be on the bedside table a little longer. Definitely recommend. As the author states, this book assumes you are able to warp and weave already and have a working understanding of basic fundamentals. This isn’t a “learn to weave” book, it’s a “learn to weave Krokbragd” book so it shouldn’t get dinged points for not being a book that teaches weaving from the ground floor. This is the book I’ve long been searching for to round out my understanding of this structure, thank you so much for your work in publishing this. One other little happy thing- I love when authors specify what type of loom the drafts are reflective of so that I know if I need to invert tie-up: in this case a rising shed/jack loom.

First printing has pattern errors
I really like this book. The author has researched Krokbagd well and her writing about the subject is clear. However, if you received the first printed edition of this book, like I did, you will find that when weaving the coaster project the pattern doesn't match the photos. I happened upon the author's website and saw that there were corrections to the pattern I was following.

Easy to understand
This book is exactly what I wanted. Good pictures and clear instructions. Unlike another book I looked at, it has easily readable print, and I don't feel like I need to spend months studying the book before starting a project.

This book is not auite what I expected, though I'm not sure, having read it, why I should have expected anything different. its great! The book starts with an introduction to Krokbragd, as you would expect, and then goes into th cultural heritage and traditional styles of this 3 shat weave, and its fair to say that there are many more interpretations of using the three shafts than the bright figures and patterns we tend to associate with this weave. Just as with 4 shaft weaving there many more different styles than twill that use the manipulation of colour and shaft to create diverse distinct styles using 4 shafts, there is a great variety in 3 shaft weaving through a similar manipulation of shaft and colour. The book is well illustrated with historical and modern examples, along with their drafts, where appropriate, and there are also instructions for how to weave Krokbragd on a rigid heddle loom, which is not scary at all if you haven't tried it before. In fact, the RH loom is ideal as its so much easier to warp up! That should not put off those who own a 4 harness or more loom as while the basics are simple enough to grasp, its, of course, never just as simple as that! This is an in depth look at the subject written in a language we can all understand. It is not obscure or full of terms we cannot understand without a dictionary, so this is suitable for those with little as well as a lot of weaving experience. The history and basic designs take up about one third of the book, then projects and samplers follow, before the author gets down to the nitty-gritty of designing our own patterns, and what a choice of styles there are! Double point, warp-faced or turned, 4 shaft, double-faced, there is plenty to choose from, all accompanied by excellent clear photos, and well executed diagrams to show us exactly how the yarns go through the warp so that we can understand what it is we are doing and what will work when we decide to fly solo. Samples of work include many modern designs, definitely not limited to carpets and rugs, and include some pieces that look as if they have come from the Americas rather than Norway. If you are interested in Krokbragd and intrigued by the possibilities offered by this distinctive style of weaving, and want to learn more, this is a good book to feed your curiosity. This may be enough for most of us as there is so much to try out. However I know that there will be a few weavers who will want to find out just how far this style of weaving can be pushed, and this will set them up for that too. And if your looms are already tied up, its a good excuse to go out and get another!
