Changed the Sim Card, Charged the Battery and It Works! Great Flip Phone for the price.
It was time I retired the old Samsung T-109, my wife has been using it for about the last 14 years and batteries are no longer available. I buy 1000 minutes for her from T-Mobile for $100. Finding this phone on amazon was my lucky day.. So, I got the phone today and it was in the original T Mobile packaging with all the stuff to activate it with a new sim card and instructions. Lucky for me, all I had to do was change out the sim car from my old T Mobile phone, insert it in the sim card slot, charge the battery and re-enter all my wife's contacts and it fired off without any issues. I am ecstatic over how easy it was to get this phone up and usable. The voice quality is excellent, it takes pictures and send text messages should the need arise. It is also connected to a 3G network which is better than what the old T-109 had to offer for connectivity. This phone does not seem as durable as the old T-109 but for the price and initial quality out of the box I am very pleased as is my wife. For a simple straight forward phone and the 1000 minutes for $100 from T-Mobile and the ability to carry over minutes beyond the one year with as little as a $10 addition you can make all your minutes last 5 years. What a deal for a casual user of a cell phone.I would also like to thank the good people who answered my question about how involved it would be to get this phone up and operating. I am not a tech gifted person. I can only hope this phone lasts as long as the old one.

Perfect for my elderly Father-in-law
As it goes with older folk, they generally become pretty comfortable with the technology they've used for years, and are hard-pressed to change. And so it was with my 81 year-old Father-in-law, who was heartbroken when his old flip phone finally snapped at the hinges. He was dead-set against a smart phone, and wanted something similar to his old phone. He'd also just renewed his T-mobile prepaid plan, so he wanted to be sure to get a phone that was compatible. This one worked great. He was even able to use his old sim card, and brought it to his local shop to be set up (which you should check with your local store before buying, just to be sure). It has been about a month, and he's really happy with it, as it was familiar to him, and was easy to use. The only complaint came from my Mother-in-law, who has little tolerance for the audio voice that talks to you when you push functions or want to read out numbers (which, oddly, reads them as if they were figures, such as: "Five million, five-hundred and fifty-five thousand, five-hundred and fifty-five," for (555) 555-5555. It's goofy, and makes it less utilitarian, but for him it's no biggie, and for her it's just annoying). The price was right, and everything for the set up and use went smoothly. Very important in keeping the old folks placated! ;)

A pretty good simple flip phone
I bought this when Amazon had it for $24.99 in July 2015. It was a steal at that price. This is a genuine T-mobile phone, not a knock-off. It comes with a Sim card and a charger. Everything you need is in the box. No additional purchases are necessary. It's a good simple phone. The only thing I would downgrade it for, is there is no apparent way to put your contacts into folders and then display only the folders. It always shows all your contacts in a large list. You can assign a category to each contact, but I don't think you can collapse a group of contacts, in order to display the contact list in a more compact way. I took off one star for that. Also, one other negative point. The phone is a dark blue and black color. This makes it harder to see on a table. It blends into the clutter. My previous LG flip phone was silver and it stood out. Also, this phone is built around minimal power usage. The battery lasts many days between charges if the phone is not used for calls. Part of this power-saving feature means the little LCD on the top of the phone is normally dark. It's also dark during charging. So you can't glance at your phone to see the time and date, like I could with my old LG phone. And again, the new phone blends into the clutter when it's on the charger. I put a couple white labels on it from my Brother label maker to make it easier to spot the phone, and not to leave without it.There is another thing to downgrade it for. It lacks a loud distinctive ringtone from the available options. My old LG flip-phone had a very loud, very attention-getting "LG ringtone" that would wake me up from sleep in the next room. There is no easy way to get new ringtones into the LG 450. The LG website says, regarding adding new ringtones:"We're sorry, but this feature is not available for this device".Some people on the net say you can use the web browser (if you got that enabled by T-Mobile) in the LG 450 to transfer ringtones by bluetooth from your PC. But there are no step-by-step instructions on how to do this, if it's even possible.

Miserable product design
The local Tmobile store recommended this phone, the only flip-phone Tmobile sells, but not in stock. Amazon got it faster and cheaper. Sure wish I'd seen it in the store. The keypad has no keys. It is a thin sheet of plastic with molded grooves so it looks like keys in a product photo. I can feel the little domes on the circuit board behind the plastic sheet and figure out where to press, but I got this phone for a senior. To use this phone, you need a fingertip like a #2 pencil eraser and feel where the dome is.The top shortcut keys are preloaded for 'buy music' and 'buy games' Whoever ordered that these features be included did not actually look at this phone. While configuring the shortcut keys, I discover the menu nav does not have a back-one-level. It is awkward, but don't need to use it much after setup is done. In about an hour I'm done with the shortcut keys and a small list of contacts.Ok, so can Mom use it? No way. Fingers are not so pointy with arthritis. The press-and-hold to turn on the phone is difficult. Other keys are more difficult to impossible.
