LOVE IT !
As usual I was looking to replace a Sony 5 disk changer, bought in the mid 90s at the peak of cd tech. Now the selection is slim anywhere you look. I bought the Yamaha because I trust the brand. Things I like The cd sound is bad ass! I cant say enough about it. It does everything the old cd player did. shuffles the cd and the song with every new selection. You can change out cds while its playing. Easy install, a power cord and two wires, left and right, to plug into the amp. BEST OF ALL is that this unit is designed to work hand in hand with I Pod tech. When I read about this in the owners manual I was very curious. I have a older ipod that has problems. the battery runs out quickly and the >> no longer works on the wheel. Its a 16 GB with 1700 songs. So the advance button was the first to go. This is no longer a problem. The Yamaha has a USB port in the front. You plug in your ipod select USB, the ipod turns itself on and the Yamaha hand remote will control all the basic commands. You still have to program the ipod if you want to listen to a specific artist or album and select shuffle if you want songs played randomly. The battery is no longer a problem because when USB is selected and the ipod is plugged in its being charged. I just leave my little ipod with all its songs, plugged in, and laying on the Yamaha. This unit just brought back to life a great little piece of technology. So now, for me, its twice the value! Things I don't like. Like with all fading tech, lack of interest drives, or rather, no longer drives the market. so the digital display in the front of the unit is very very small, unlike my Sony. The remote is not great but its ok. Ill leave with just a couple thoughts, because this type of tech has run its coarse it has the potential to possess the very best of all the cd developments that occurred during that time. I think that's why it sounds so good Adding the digital option is a really nice touch but it was inevitable. I will say that cds sound better than the ipod but that could just be me.

Excellent CD player, with minor quibbles
I received the Yamaha C600BL CD player very quickly after the order was placed. It arrived undamaged, was easy to set up, intuitive to operate, and the improvement in sound quality compared to my old Sony CD deck was striking from the first disc I played. My wonderful old Fried Studio Four speakers have never sounded better than with this player. For the price, it is an excellent value. Having used it for only a couple of weeks, there is no way to assess the reliability, but there have certainly been no hints of any problems to come. It is easy to hear the unit changing discs, but it is no noisier than other players in its class and is not distracting. When switching between tracks on a disc, the delay seems a little long - three seconds or so - but is not really a problem. One feature is to be able to dim or turn off the display, and that should, in principle, reduce the background noise. However, I am unable to detect any difference at all - a good thing as it means there is no real disadvantage of leaving it on. The only feature I wish the unit had is a headphone jack to allow more direct access to the sound than one obtains by plugging into the main power amp. However, the sound quality is so good that the need for headphones is greatly reduced, so I don't think I'll miss using them much. My only significant criticism is reserved for the remote. First, it is rather bland and symmetrical, the buttons all have the same shape, and the button labels are all very small. Thus, you really have to look closely to find the one you want to push. This will improve with time, of course, as one becomes more familiar with the layout of the remote, but it would have been easy to design it with a better human interface. The other problem with the remote is that there is no way to select an arbitrary one of the five discs. Instead, the only function it provides is "disc skip" that allows skipping only from one to the next. If the disc I want is not in the next position, I find myself just having to get up and select it by pushing the appropriate button on the cd player itself. Overall, the remote is OK but is definitely the weakest link in the design. Overall, I recommend this unit, at least so far.

A very Good CD Player
The Yamaha CD-C600 is a great unit, with very good sound. I find the sound clean and rich. The play mechanism seems quiet, no noise. Set-up was very easy and the unit played the first time with no problems. The CD load time is a bit slow, however there are other brands that are slower. The CD tray opens to display all 5 CD bays at once. I find that the 2 CDs in the back are a bit awkward to remove. I would have preferred the single CD removal option found on other 5 disc players. The USB port works with all my memory sticks and I have had no problems playing MP3 re-writable CDs recorded from my computer. It is important to note that the disc used must be ISO 9660 compatible. In regard to MP3 files… please read the Manual! I find the display area a bit narrow, however adequate and readable. The display has 4 brightness levels that can be accessed by the remote. The remote itself looks clean and logical. I would have liked Yamaha to display the commands in bolder type on the remote, as I have trouble reading it at times. In regards to features in general I do miss the calendar display that lists all tracks of the cd being played. I know few if any CD players have this feature, however that was not the case in the past. It is extremely helpful in programming mode. All said the Yamaha CD-C600 has some nice features such as Random mode, Disc Scan which scans beginning of all CDs, Play Memory Mode, which resumes your last track played and an Auto Standby feature. I think The Yamaha CD-C600 is a very good unit that should merit serious consideration.

I'm happy with this DVD player had no problems with it and it works as it should the only frustrating thing is when you turn it on it cycles through the carousel to see if there's a disc inside and your standing there knowing there isn t one and waiting to press the button to open the tray I turn it on before I sort out the CD now because it annoys me waiting for it..

On touching the front panel of the player it was clear that the player's frame was charged. I measured 80-100v between the frame and earth. I'm sure that this shouldn't be happening but I solved the problem by replacing the plug supplied with the player (no earth but simply a plastic pin 'false' earth) with a normal 13amp plug and connected an extra piece of wire from the earth to the rear panel.
