Not quite like the original!
This motor replaced an older exhaust fan motor in our bathroom that went out recently. The new one we received was the same except that there was no collar on the new motor shaft to prevent the fan cage from moving. Within ten or fifteen seconds after powering it up the fan was rubbing on the motor and had to be removed. Instead of trying to explain all this to an Amazon rep why it wouldn't work, I decided to improvise. I used a couple of nylon washers and a small piece of wood dowel as as spacer to hold the fan cage in place. I drilled out the dowel so that it fit right over the motor shaft. I could have done the same thing with a bunch of nylon washers but didn't have enough on hand to make up the distance between the motor and the fan cage. Anyway, it has been in for a few weeks and the fan has been quiet so what the heck....its working! Also, the new motor was not in a seal tight housing as there are several openings in the housing for releasing heat I guess. Not sure why the change in design but it probably won't last nearly as long as the old one. Probably will save the manufacturer money in material cost. My guess is that I'll be doing this again in a few years.

It's Never As Hard As It Looks!
I'm an older guy who always left handyman repairs up to whomever specialized in various areas. Now that I'm retired I find myself interested in "do it yourself" projects. Each one is learning by doing but I find it satisfying to figure out each problem and then solving it. Whenever I face a new situation I always tell myself that thousands of other people have already accomplished the same task. If they can do it so can I.When my wife complained about the combination light/fan in the guest bathroom being loud I had to 'snap to' and go take a look. After all, many of my chores are "honey do's" and if I don't try to keep up the list just keeps growing. So I went back to the "loud" fan and turned it on. Kind of sounded like a damaged airplane taking off. I took apart the apparatus, laying the various parts in order on the counter to make it easier to put it back together. Everything appeared to be in good shape with the exception of the 20 year old fan motor. After cross-referencing the motor on the internet I ordered the replacement from Amazon. The new motor appeared to be an exact replacement for what I had taken down. It also appeared well-made, alleviating my concern about some of the reviews written. It fit into the support perfectly, plugged into the old electrical connection, and the outside shroud slid over the whole apparatus perfectly. One flick of the switch turned on the fan and the other switch controlled the light. Why they didn't incorporate both into one switch 20 years ago surprises me but I'm sure that they had a reason. So another project is successfully completed to the satisfaction of my wife. The fan is a bit loud but considering how old the technology is I was also satisfied. I'm not to the point yet of modifying/updating anything that I repair but that will probably come along. Right now I'm making my bones just trying to diagnose and repair the existing problem. The internet is a huge help, there are good videos on YouTube, and calling the company is a great way to confirm your research. Being able to do these simple projects is somehow very satisfying to me. It's never as hard as it looks.

Fits perfectly, but louder than original.
Motor was easy to install and fits perfectly. Very economical and does the job well. My only complaint is that it is a bit louder than the old motor.

Short power cord
This replaced the bad motor in the Emerson-Pryne bathroom fan in my late 1960’s home. Could easily swap the fan body and mounts, but almost couldn’t get the cord to reach the plug in. The cord is very short and would not reach the plug in regardless of which way the motor was put on the mounts. Had to plug in and then stretch the cord to the mounting nuts. It sounds and works better than the old one, but one more inch of power cord would have made mounting way easier.

Replaced a 45 year old motor
The old motor failed after 45 years of us, and this motor replaced it perfectly.

Old fan wheel kept slipping down
This motor's fine. It fit easily into the old fan housing. I did not replace the old fan blade, and after one or two days' use, it slipped down and started rubbing against the housing and making a banging racket. After re-installing twice, I placed a couple of nylon washers around the motor shaft so the blades couldn't slip down far enough to rub against the housing anymore. That did the trick.

I have 4 NUTONE fans in my home.
4 fans have lasted 22 years. And when the one that's used the most finally gave up the ghost... What a pleasant surprise to find the replacement motor for it. Shipped right away and was delivered a day earlier that expected. Ten minutes after it was out of the box it was in the fan and running like a champ!
