It works, but you still have many many hours ahead of you :)
First of all, I don't think people realize that this tool is not magic. I have seen reviews such as.. "it helped some," it worked sort of" "we still have some issues with words that have more than one R" Folks this is ONLY to teach your child how the tongue moves in an R, and if you are not ready for the time spent working on Or.. Er.. Ar, Words beginning with R and ending with er then I don't know what to tell you except that this is a year or more of intense work. So the child uses the tool to learn, "hey this is how my tongue curls to make an R. In our case my Grandson had never said a correct R from Birth to age 6.. You could not explain how the tongue should go. Then got the speech tool and simply let him work with it on certain words.. began with articulating words like "RRRRight" and "RRReal" "RRex" etc and told him not to worry about any words that had more than R at the beginning. In 2 days every word was perfect!! Then we incorporated words with blends such as Brown, broken, from, prone, probably, grown, crown all blends.. after 2 weeks all worlds were perfect, he is now mastering Remember, clover, proper, and they are perfect!! the only thing he still has a few struggles with are OR words, such as Port, storm report.. but i tell ya, its almost perfect. This is speech therapy.. it's huge, they have spoken wrong for years and it will take months and months to get it corrected, the tool is just that, a reminder of how the tongue should be moving in order to get the word to sound right- the rest is up to you :) Hang in there everyone - It works, you'll get the kinks worked out and you'll be so happy when you hear proper R's and your little one will be so proud and confidence boosted by leaps and bounds :) I worked for years at school in this area, and it's impossible to 'tell" how your tongue should be for certain sounds.. this gets it right and then they can practice.. so thankful we found it!!

Very disappointed that we spent this much money with no results
I had purchased this for my daughter in hopes of avoiding additional speech therapy but it did very little in helpIng to correct her articulation. We just saw a therapist today who indicated that although this device helps to get the front of the tongue back, it does not do much to bring the back half of the tongue to scrunch in the right position. Very disappointed that we spent this much money with no results.

This is a great tool. Our daughter
This is a great tool. Our daughter, now 11, could not pronounce her R's up until the age of 8. She has always had a gap between her teeth so some letters are difficult and you don't feel your teeth as a guide. Speech therapy at school and in a professional environment did not help - that is not to say that it doesn't help others. We found ourselves frustrated at her being singled out in class to go to speech therapy and the money we spent on private professional sessions. This tool worked for us. My daughter and I practiced over a summer. Followed the guidelines, and she now has an understanding of how to pronounce her R's. They are perfect. At age 11, we now are concerned with her S's as the gap in her adult teeth has not yet closed up and her tongue slips right through. We intend to buy the "Seal" buddy tool. I will review that as soon as our summer is over. HINT: Record your child before your start using the tool, then do it at monthly increments. You will notice a difference!

It seems to be helping my son but it is SO over priced!!
Overpriced and my son commented that this company is taking advantage of someone's disability. Well said.

Helpful Device
My son is 13 and has been in speech therapy for 2 years during the school year. The speech teacher at his school advised me to practice 10 minutes daily during the summer. I did practice, but felt he was just practicing the wrong sound for 10 minutes daily. After I bought the speech buddy, I noticed an immediate difference in his "R" sound. I had no idea how to tell him to make the "R" sound. This helped him to place his tongue in the right position. We did the speech buddy academy exercises. I think this has been more productive than the speech classes at school. I am proud of myself and my son. This is an expensive tool, but really helpful. I would highly recommend it.

Nothing yet
I am sure every bit helps but this device doesn't seem to be doing much so far. My son was very frustrated using it at first, but now he puts up with it. He was frustrated when trying to say words with more than one "r" in them. He has been using it for about 5-10 minutes a day (less than the recommended amount) and we have not seen amazing results yet. We have been using it for a few months.

Worth a try and worth every penny if continues to work!
So far so good :) We have been working on the “r” sound in speech for a few years with my 8.5 yr old daughter. She used this 5-10 times and is saying r clearer than she ever has. “Earth” “world” and “girl” all much clearer. I was so hesitant to spend the money on this. It doesn’t look like much for what you pay though the metal case is cute. But I so far am pleasantly surprised and my daughter kept giving me the biggest smile. She is thrilled. She can hear the difference too.

SLP in public schools purchases r Buddie
I am a clinically certfied SLP in the public schools (Shreveport,Louisiana), and have been practicing speech therapy since 1980. I currently have 3 children with consistent, unstimulable vocalic r distortions (ages K-4th grade), so I ordered the R Speech Buddy, and enthusiastically payed the $124.00 plus tax and shipping. I considered the price of the Speech Buddies to be unreasonably high, but if worked, it would be worth every penny! Unfortunately, none of my three children have yet been able to produce an acceptable vocalic r with the aid of the Speech Buddy, and I have been working with the tool for about 3 weeks now. I have not been able to elicit even a modified distortion of vocalic r with any of these kids. I own the tool now, and will continue to use it among the other techniques I use to teach this sound. I believe these tools, however, are overpriced, and in the case of R Speech Buddy, not that effective.
