From Tinto Brass , the director of CALIGULA, comes his own EXTENDED DIRECTOR S CUT of SALON KITTY . Completely uncensored and presented for the first time in HD, this fully restored wide-screen version finally allows this film s extreme, almost hard-core, content to be seen as originally intended by its director; as well as showcasing the stunning sets of Oscar®-winner Ken Adams (designer of most James Bond films and Kubrick s BARRY LYNDON). Based on a true story, this shockingly controversial film is an unflinching portrayal of the criminal depravity of the Nazi party and the ruthless use of sex to destroy opponents and control the Third Reich. Berlin, 1939, the start of the World War II, SS Officer Wallenberg ( Helmut Berger ) is instructed to train twenty of the most beautiful staunch young Nazi women as prostitutes and put them to work in the opulent brothel of Madame Kitty ( Ingrid Thulin ). Region Coding: ALL Languages: English and Italian Extras - 24 minutes interview with Director Tinto Brass - Theatrical Trailer Fetid decadence. --Evening News Review: I must say she is a delight and the best looker in the film - This film is an adult X film set in the beginning of WW2 in Berlin. The Nazis turn a bunch of women into prostitutes linked to a night club to spy on the tongues of unsuspecting other Nazis. This was made by Tinto Brass in Italy, a producer/director noted for sex films. This is the extended cut and that footage added that had no English soundtrack dubbing loops has English subtitles added to the screen at those times, otherwise an Italian and default English tracks are available. The person with the largest, by far, is the then young English runaway, Teresa Ann Savoy. I must say she is a delight and the best looker in the film. Savoy got a major part in Caligula when Maria Schneider left the production due to not wanting to do nude scence. Savoy seems to have in Italy with a family and no longer is in films. The film runs 133mins and it plenty gory in parts. In case you are wondering there appears to be only one quick intimate frontal flash of Savoy but there is an abundance of the rest of her body thru'out. Male nudity abounds. Review: One of the more professional films of the genre... - BLU RAY RELEASE: One of the more professional films of the genre, Tinto Brass gives a credible, even somewhat restrained, feel to the subject. Some of the female nudity is, apart from its obvious beauty, tantalising without being leering or excessive - although, if memory serves correct, I didn't quite understand why they were seemingly portrayed as dominant over the selected captured men they were to have sex with. Atypical of the majority of films of this type, picture quality on this BD is crisp, clear and with excellent colour balance - well done the distributor for letting the original camerawork shine through. The extras include an interesting interview with the Director speaking in English, and some tantalising trailers of other releases - the film concerning a nunnery looked, how shall we say, quite appealing. Would I consider buying further films directed by Tinto Brass? Yes! An enjoyable film if you enjoy this subject but, despite the hype, this shows little to be shocked about in the 'naughties (2000s) which is why I give it four rather than five stars. A harder edge to the film would have secured full marks.

Soft Porn Pretending to be a World War Two Drama
Yes that's basical it; find an excuse to legitimize a porn movie. Pretend you are dramatising a War drama about the Nazi's. After all Nazi's, particulary the SS, make for good fetish foder. How well they did it begs the question. Facts: Well yes Salon Kitty did exist and was liscensed by the Nazi's, and they did uses it to spy and eves drop on their own officers to find out who couldn't keep secret what they knew and also who revealed themselves to being defeatist or anti Nazi. A few drinks inside them and a desire to impress the girl in bed with them, or an uncontrolable desire to get their deep fears and anxieties off their chest by telling a whore who's not really listening anyway, only she is, and not just her but microphones in the walls with recorders in other rooms. How much of the rest is true is anyones guess. As a movie it's typical seventies commercial soft porn, as a drama it slightly better than most others in this genre but compared to a larger studio production it's obviously a low budget independant with all the negative poor production values you'd expect.

hm....
the story could have been interesting and the cast is promising... I had seen 15 years ago a VHS and had tought that this actually was a good movie. Now seeing it again I was shocked by the bad storytelling, most of the scenes don't are really necessary for the film, and many just double things already told. Also the camerawork is really sloopy. The poor Cabaret scenes also are bit embaracing, especially if compared to "Cabaret". I recently also saw "Caligula" also by the same director, and actually liked it ant its weirdness. I have no problems with nudity or strong scenes, but this movie is yust dull... The image of the Blu Ray isn't really good, actually soft and very grainy with faint colors. But the grain does not look like film grain, it seems more electronic noise caused by an excessive use of a sharpening filter appilied while restoring an average quality master of the movie.

Salon Kitty - Or My Life As A DSAP Whore
High production value Nazisploitation film from bootymeister Tinto Brass. If you've seen Caligula , even the trimmed version , you'll know what to expect from this tale of the S.S. recruiting nazi women to work in a brothel for soldiers where the bedrooms are bugged to find out what the soldiers really think about the war whilst enjoying general debauchery (though Caligula didn't have the electronic surveillance, just the nutters and the general debauchery). An excellent camp fun poke at the odious nazi S.S. hierarchy and the shocking banality of evil . On a lower brow note the brothel cabaret is great (think "Cabaret" with nudity) and the overall sleaze is fantastic;Tinto even works in a love/death/revenge story.Brilliant.

Reality Check - Art or Entartete Kunst
After watching the movie I asked myself "Why the hell did I buy it?" And I did not find an answer as yet! Here my unfiltered impressions: The first 30 minutes are disgusting. Is this what humans are capable of? – Since the movie is based on a true story the answer has to be Yes! And it did and does happen in situations of uncontrolled abuse of power where the means are only justified by he ends. Using the playing field of a brothel in the third Reich the movie describes power plays between humans in various positions of power. On the lower end of power is the blind follower of ideology presented by the Nazi girls donating their bodies/dignity to the greater cause. On the upper end is the SS officer Wallenberg, who is given the power by the system and who also uses it for his own personal wants. (Which, by the way, any person in real life does, only with different means.) Watch Kitty the saloonkeeper, how she plays along in the beginning to keep her standing, not without claiming high level power connections. There are the salon customers who are unknowingly giving away their power sources by giving in to their sexual desires. To which genre does this move belong? There is plenty of nudity, some suspense and not too much action. Even though some of the girls are quite beautiful I could not enjoy the nudity, since some of it is just repulsive. The picture quality is mediocre. Small parts of the sound track are in Italian. To me the best element of the film is, that is thought provoking. Should you be interested in the key topic of the film, namely the use and abuse of power, I recommend the book “THE DICTATOR’S HANDBOOK”.

Unbelievably bad.
Even for Tinto Brass (who has never made a half decent film in his lif imho)this is very bad. Forget the review about full fronatl nudity. There is nothing sexually strong or exciting here. One or two scenes obviously designed to be 'a bit unusual' eg women having simulated sex with disabled men were all too brief. A pig of a film which includes the slaughter of a pig as a final insult.
