Exceptional, riveting, original. 10/10 Crime/Thriller pulls you in - the end is amazing!!
Detective Vogel: 'A fisherman who only catches one fish' will make more sense to those that watch this exceptional gem of a very unique, riveting movie. It pulls you in and won't let go. It is one of those endings that you won't forget. I was put off at first from watching this because of the subtitles, I forgot it was subtitled within just a few minutes. Engaging with twists and turns and an ending that is simply exceptional. Awesome transitions using dioramas of the town and seamlessly blend into the next scenes - a very cool touch, and shows the thought, creativity and attention to detail by the director, it is unlike any other movie and is perhaps one of the best crime/thriller movies I've seen in years. It is engaging. Very thoughtful, methodical and creative with twists and turns you won't see coming . The ending is amazing. not one of those where you think well, i saw that coming, or figured it out before it ends. A gem, exceptional I ended up buying the movie and watched it for the 2nd time with my girlfriend, and is one of those movies that is simply exceptional in every way. i hope you enjoy this gem. I trust you will. .

It's Italian, so that's an automatic 4, but it's still a good film!
I knew who the real killer was from the beginning. If you listen to Reno's character describe the kind of fish he catches...you'll get it. The other guy was a copycat. The process of finding the killer is interesting. The whole media sensation around it all and the distorted use of the media is disturbing but realistic. Good acting. Very European film.

Masterful understatement
I usually worry if I have to watch subtitles starting at 10 p.m. that I won't be able to make it to the end of the movie; it's just too late for that kind of concentration. Not this movie. With movies today lacking in acting and going for realistic gore and violence, this one's for me. Totally understated with great acting, beautifully filmed, perfect music for the suspense as it grabs you and keeps you, this mystery is a must see. I don't know if there are "holes" in the plot that someone else has found and reviewed, I was just as drawn into the plots, subplots and manipulations as the characters themselves, up to the very end. If you want horror or action, this is not for you. To say one "enjoys" a murder mystery seems a bit callous, but you have to sit back at the end and say, oh, my, oh, my.

Beyond Boring
There were moments of tension and suspense when this almost seemed worth watching, but there weren't enough such moments to sustain the storyline that either dragged to the point that I wished they would just get on with it already. Then the storyline became so convoluted and the plot thickened to the point that I lost my appetite long before I could finish the meal. The scenery is beautiful but completely washed out by this tedious, boring opera without music.

So then he took her fishing? SPOILERS
Why did that one guy continue to cut his hand so deeply. It seemed like years went by and people barely noticed that this guy was walking around with a huge bandage that was holding his nearly self severed hand together. Is this common among Italian serial killers to be cutting themselves like that? Would make it easy to find them.I don't want to give too much away. He said he was looking at a dying fish, but actually it was a dying you know what. Is that just trying to say that the you know what is about equal to fish to this guy? Or was that a hallucination. Doesn't make sense that you'd tote a victim all the way out to the mountain lakes to go fishing and why would they be dying. What was that stuff with the plastic sheets? The girl laid out on the sheets was sedated? and then again sedated to go fishing? Then there was the detective surrounding by plastic shower curtains for some reason. It looked kind of cool in a slaughterhouse kind of way.The movie was a mix of really good stuff and hilariously bad stuff like the slow clap of the detective during the guy's class. That was so obnoxious.

One of the Best Murder Mysteries I've Seen
As another reviewer said, most foreign films are so much better than most of those now made in America. Sad, but true. I agree wholeheartedly with The Girl in the Fog's other 5-Star reviewers. This film is superb in every way. As for the complaints about "foreign language / subtitles / didn't make sense / too slow", I guess I have to refer back to my previous statement: foreign filmmakers, for the most part, have continued to make smart and artistic films regardless of genre. American filmmakers have sunk to making superhero and car chase movies with dialog fit for the denizens of "Idiocracy". It certainly wasn't always that way. I know. I worked for one of the great innovators in American film. Whether foreign or American, one thing is for sure: both groups of today's filmmakers know their audiences and provide accordingly.

Noir italiano
Bella sorpresa.

ottimo acquisto gran bel film!
Ottimo acquisto! Consigliato!
