It seems to work, but I'm not convinced this is the best tool available. I'm new to reloading, so I don't have much experience with other primer pocket tools. Before I got this, I was using a dental pick to chip out carbon, which worked OK. I expected this thing to have a similar, sharp cutting edge, but it's more like a dull, flat-blade screwdriver tip. It doesn't "bite" into hard carbon deposits, so you don't really feel it working, and you end up pushing it in really hard, which is tiring after cleaning a batch of 50 or 100 cases. It's a loose fit in the primer pocket hole, too, which makes me worry it'll miss getting stubborn deposits out of the edges of the pocket. But so far, it seems to do an adequate job. I wonder if one of those tools with a stiff wire brush, or a cutting-tool type profile would would have better "bite", better feel, and do a better job.

excellent little tool for the reloader. the ends have a nice, clean square cut, and do a fine job of cleaning the primer pocket. my lyman pocket cleaner, although adequate, has slightly rounded cutting edges. to each his own, i prefer the lee. for small numbers of cases, hand held is fine. for large quantities, i attach a flexible shaft with a chuck to my variable speed drill, insert the tool and go to town. use a moderate speed, high speed is not warranted or desirable. you can place the drill on it's side, on your bench and posistion it to your satisfaction. or, get fancy and buy or build a drill stand. either way, you can go thru hundreds of cases in no time. i like this set-up so much, i purchased several extra just to have them on hand. they're not expensive. you're welcome America.

Bottom line: This is the affordable and easy way to clean primer pockets. With just a few twists is scrapes away the worst of the residue from firing with little to no pressure applied. The relatively small overall diameter makes it easy to twist quickly between two fingers and the tool is knurled where the user grips it. This product is vastly more efficient than the brush-type cleaners available from RCBS. I must say that I generally don't care about residue in primer pockets however it does reach a point where it beings to impede proper seating of a new primer. For this application, this tool is a great choice. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend and any reloader.

I normally do not clean the primer pockets on my pistol brass. I tumble it all and then throw it on the progressive press where it gets de-capped and processed into shootable brass again. That changed when I started loading large quantities of .45 brass. With LPP and SPP primer hard to separate 100%, I decided to de-cap the .45 brass first. That makes sorting for primer size much, much easier. Since I was de-capping first, I might as well clean the primer pockets a bit before tumbling. This tool does a good job of cleaning them. I do not get it perfectly clean, just knocking out the major dirt/tarnich/carbon. I then let the tumbler handle the rest. A simple twist in the primer pocket is enough. My primer pockets come out much cleaner and that makes loading a bit easier.
