Have used for 11 years and still going strong!
It's not often that I will write a review on a product that I have purchased as long as 11 years ago. But by now I have used this product many times on several different vehicles (1998 Honda CR-V, 2002 Honda Accord, 2015 Honda CR-V, 2015 Mazda 3, 2016 Hyundai Sonata, 2018 Honda CR-V, and more) and have some thoughts to share based on my usage of this scan tool over 11 years.First of all, this thing, even though plastic, is plenty durable. I have had this device stashed in the back of various vehicles for years, getting knocked around, heated in the sun, frozen in the cold, jiggled millions of times over millions of Chicago potholes, etc. And what I can report is, it still works just as it did on day one. Quite durable.Secondly, know that this is a very very basic ODB2 scan tool. Nothing fancy here. For example, it will display trouble codes such as P0301, but it won't actually tell you what P0301 means. But you could then pull out your smartphone, open a browser, and search "P0301 trouble code" and see all the details about what that code relates to and what might be triggering that trouble code. So, it's a little more work than having the description displayed right on the device. But, that's the tradeoff for the very inexpensive price. But then again, if you spent a bit more to buy a code reader that did display the English description for the trouble code, it most probably still won't tell you what might be triggering it, and you'd still have to research on the internet to get that information anyway. Consider: How often do you expect to use this device? If only every several months or so on average, then it's really not a big deal to have to look up the trouble code on the internet in order to obtain the code description and possible causes. And for the low price, that's an acceptable tradeoff for me.Thirdly, the menus take a little practice to figure out how to navigate them and find things, but you'll catch on in a minute or two of playing around with it. Just pay attention to what the screen is displaying before you hit the next button, and you should do fine. Don't just start hitting random buttons because you feel like you don't know what you're doing. That'll just leave you lost.Aside from that, I have found this to be a very durable and reliable tool, and have gotten my money's worth out of it many times over already. For that reason, even if it's not anywhere near the fanciest and most capable of scan tools, it earns 5 stars from me. IF you need only a basic tool and at the lowest price point, this one is a good choice, and I can recommend it after 11 years (and counting) as a satisfied user.

Simple
It does exactly what I bought it for reading DTC's.

Good So Far!
2004 Chevy TahoeJust received reader an hour ago; saved me a $10 gas bill for a trip into town to Auto Zone or another parts store where they will run a test and print it out for free using a similar reader. So...reader has already half way paid for itself. Plus, if ever in a situation where you don't want to run the car anywhere because you don't know why your light went off, this $20 gizmo is not only a convenience, but could save you damaging your car by trying to limp it into the parts store or mechanic.Pros:-Unit very well backlighted as soon as you plug it in. This came in very handy as it was dark out and interior car lights would not be enough to read a typical LCD unlit display while standing outside your vehicle. Never would have thought about this feature unless I had needed it, so, make a note when shopping around that this unit and this company took the time to include this feature in one of their basic models, and I, now, personlaly recomend having a backlit unit.-I knew I had two codes due to the last time I went to the parts store, but lost the list. The reader came up with the two codes without problems.Cons:- The wire is long enough to hold the unit and stand up outside the vehicle and read. With only about a 2.5 Foot cable, the reader can not be more than 3 feet from wherever your computer output is at. The unit is very well backlighted, but can not be read from an angle. It is not long enough to have it plugged in and read while using the Rear Passenger Door Window as a writing surface. Because this particular device relies on vehicle power instead of an internal battery, it must be plugged in while you are taking readings, and of course because of this, it is not equiped with a HOLD feature so you must be at your car to record codes. I wanted a cheap unit, and knew before I bought it that this would be the case, but, especially if I had a shorter car instead of my SUV, and if my computer plug in were further away, it would be a real pain. With the location of my computer plug on my vehicle, combined with an SUV height of the plug at around 3 feet from the ground, I was only slightly frustrated by the cable length of the reader, which required me to do a lot of back and forth manipulation for only 2 code reads.-Were it not for the cabel length issue, I would rate this unit a solid 5. That being said, I bought this unit as my first OBDII reader, knowing that in the future this one would become a reliable backup. Since I am already whining, might as well state that this is a very simple reader with no frills or sophisticated options, so, as my car gets older and my hands get dirtier, I will be purchasing another reader with more options, but, for my aging vehicles first round of repairs, this should do just fine.

Great buy for any car user
I have bought this product several times. I have even gifted it to others who need help diagnosing their automobiles. Easy to use, easy to read, easy to store in the glove box of your car.

It’s worth the 20
It works to retrieve the codes but when I attempted to clear the codes after repairs were made I was given an additional code of an incompatible scanner for my 2014 Impala LTZ. Still only $20 just can’t clear the codes.
