Fresh
These are very fresh. I used them as seeds to grown them and see if the birds like them. So far a high percentage of the seeds germinated and the plants are doing well. Not sure what else to judge them by. If I need them again, I will buy again.

This is good stuff
I was a bit leery but was pleasantly surprised. Has the consistency of grits but the grain is smaller. It has a nice nutty flavor and is a little sweet. I'll be ordering this again.

Ancient grain alternative to polenta
Hearty, nutty flavored starch. As venison is to beef, the flavor of amaranth is to polenta - more robust and a bit more intense. A flavor personality all its own.

Not my thing baby
Not my thing, but I tried them - I really did. I've never had this kind of grain before but I'm trying to expand my diet. They do have an interesting taste, just....not what I was looking for I guess? The hard part was prep - you are supposed to rinse them but I didn't realize until it was too last that I didn't have a strainer small enough to filter out the water without losing the grain, so I had to do it with a cheese cloth like towel which took forever. But the taste of these is rather earthy - some call it nutty. It just didn't mesh well with what else I cooked. They also had little hard bits in there?Sand ? Undercooked? Dunno. Maybe I didn't prep them right, maybe you need to mix in spices or something with them, but I didn't care for them. Also, cut the recipe in half because one cup of these make a TON after it's absorbed the water. I guess I'd compare them to something like a malt-o-meal type consistency. I wanted to try mixing it with milk and some brown sugar as well, but it was cold before I could try.The product is packaged well, and I don't think there is a problem with the product per'se, so it's hard to take away stars for that, so I met in the middle. Some people with love this, others won't.
