I bought this knife for my room mate for his birthday because he said that he wanted a cleaver when I asked what he wanted. After spending some time looking for one on Amazon, I found this 1 and honestly, I just thought it looked the coolest out of all the others that I saw listed. The price was a little high, but I thought it looked cool enough to justify it and I'd say it did. The knife comes with a hard, plastic sheath to protect the blade if you had to carry it somewhere or if you had small children that like to mess with everything. It also comes with a hand carved, wooden stand for if you don't have children to worry about, you can just keep it on its stand on the counter. Now for the knife itself, this thing is robust. Full tang, so he won't have to worry about the handle snapping when he's cutting meats and other things, and the weight will definitely help with making it easier to cut tough cuts of meat and bone. The edge isn't super sharp, definitely not razor sharp, but it's still plenty sharp enough to do the job that's asked of it. And since the blade is made of stainless steel, it's pretty easy to clean. All in all, I think it's a very nice knife and makes for a very good gift.

Highly recommended
This 9” inch Gladiator Series R cleaver knife is awesome. Very sharp, the blade thickness is great, great grip, but kind of heavy. I loved how it came w/ the wood stand and sheath cover. Although it’s kind of expensive but it’s worth it. Very satisfied. Highly recommended.

For the knife nut, chef and fantasy sword nerd alike
Let me just start this review by saying that I’m a lifelong knife nut turned chef. I collect high end folders and have an array of name brand kitchen knives. I professionally sharpen knives for friends and am known to put 15,000 grit polishes on my blades. I think they’re functional works of art.. and this Dalstrong Obliterator cleaver may be one of my favorite knives I’ve ever owned. The 7cr17mov steel is found in many budget valued bushcraft knives. It’s a steel that can take a beating and doesn’t chip easily, but also won’t break the bank. I’m blown away that they could sell this hunk of steel at this price. The fit and finish on the blade is absolutely beautiful. I’m astonished that a 3lb, 9” long, 1/4” thick blade can be so balanced. That being said, if you lack shoulder strength.. beware.. this knife is heavy. It looks like something out of Final Fantasy or Dark Souls. Check my pics. I have medium-large hands and this thing is an absolute chunk.First thing I did with this beast was chop up a few whole chickens for some Korean fried chicken. Just.. wow. Goes through bone like butter. I can’t wait to use this thing to break down elk or venison.I was never given a product for review; I’m just a fan of impressive cutlery and I absolutely love this cleaver. The stand it comes with is rustic, yet refined and beautiful. And the sheath it comes with is high quality with padding on the inside to protect from scratches and absorb shock in travel. Now that I have this, I could never go back to an ordinary cleaver. I’d love to see them come out with a two handed splitting cleaver for butchers. Well done, Dalstrong 👍🏼

Great cleaver!
This aint no light weight knife. You want something beefy to slam through meat and bone this is your blade. Not for light work.

Heavy but Beautiful
This is purely a collectors knife or someone who needs to cut through dense bone on occasion. It is absolutely stunning from the handle to the stand it comes with. However, it is quite unweildy. It is incredibly heavy and because of that, not very maneuverable. Although the handle is very comfortable and it comes with a sheath for the blade which is good quality as well. As unfortunate as it is to say, the first order i received had a small blemish in the grind as well as light surface rust so i exchanged for another one that was flawless. Great showpiece if anything.

Fantasy Tool
I must admit, this thing looked just so awesome, I had to have it simply as a display piece. When I got it, the thing was easily 25% bigger than I expected in every aspect. From the blade, to the handle, to the sheath, to the stand, everything was not just big, but BIGGER. It is kind of cartoonish. But, before you think this thing completely a joke, remember this: it is designed not only to look good, but CUT good. While heavy, and not something you'll want to wield daily in a restaurant kitchen, it does have a balanced feel (for a cleaver). There is a sense of control, which is nice. The edges (tip and heel) are dangerously sharp, and you need to feel (and be) in control of the tool.It is sharp enough to pass the armhair shave test. If you think this tool "silly", let's think about its' possible uses: melons, butternut acorn or spaghetti squash, a really hard cabbage with one of those gnarly hard cores, strip loins, pork loins, quartering a chicken in 15 seconds, and on and on. Anything you'd hate using a knife on, and dread doing, will likely be child's play for this hatchet. While I bought it mainly for its' wicked looks, I think I'll end up using it more than my Dalstrong Kiritsuke. The potential is vast, and it may be the most powerful kitchen tool I own that I don't have to plug in.While the front looks sharp in the pics, those edges along the front (leading into the top) are NOT sharp. It's to add to the fantasy look Dalstrong nailed to the wall in spades.
