Does not work as described but may have another use.
I purchased these to water some big house plants I neglect sometimes. They are plastic and have 4 small holes pre-drilled for water to come out. They shipped in an unmarked package without any instructions. The missing instructions are probably due to how easy they are to figure out. They screw onto a standard soda bottle. I have confirmed this with Pepsi and Sprite 2 liter bottles along with 16.9 oz. (single serve) water bottles. You have to remove the plastic security ring that is left on the bottle after the cap has been removed or you will not get a good seal where the spike screws onto the bottle.Reason for the 1 star rating:* Using a 2 liter bottle Dry Soil = Bottle empties within seconds Water Saturated Soil = Bottle empties within minutes* Same results with smaller bottlesOther reviews say to saturate the soil before using these spikes or the bottle will empty right away. This is kind of true but either way the bottles will be empty in a few minutes. It's just faster with dry soil.Another issue is the bottle will collapse from vacuum as the water drains. I tried drilling a tiny hole in the bottom of the bottle (top when turned upside down) so air could fill the void, but that just made them drain even faster. I tried soil saturation levels from damp to swimming but I could not get these to work as described. Do not buy these to water plants when you are away for an extended amount of time like when you are on vacation/holiday. I bought these spikes so I could continue to procrastinate my watering duties. They do not work for that either.Other possible use:I'm going to try cutting off the bottom of the bottle and just use the spikes as a watering portal. I have had issues in the past with insects that lay eggs in damp soil. I believe using the spikes as I just described will allow me to get water to the roots while keeping the top few inches of the soil dry so it does not attract insects. It will also allow me to water consistently since I will be able to measure the amount of water i'm using.

Not so Waterlogged...
Bigger than expected... that's what she.. wait. I mean, these work okay. They seem to be somewhat inconsistent about the watering hole that's on the bottom of the spike, so I had two that I set up with 2-liter bottles, but they drained at different rates. They didn't really work as well as I hoped in keeping my plants watered for more than two days. It seemed within about 8 hours they were empty. I was really looking for something that would trickle water for a few days so I wouldn't have to check on the plants so often (mainly because I'm in the Southwest US and it's a 100+ degrees outside during the summer).

A Real Time Saver!
I read the reviews of others but, for the price and my ability to tinker and problem solve - I went for it. I actually really like my water spikes! I live in a city and have some window boxes that get morning to evening sunshine so watering is pretty close to a daily thing. Climbing over the end table to get to the window and water is a pain in the butt and physically tiresome as you have to hold that position until all your water is gone (the position is not a long term comfy one either). Now, these little guys?I had some empty personal size Aquafina bottles and they work beautifully! You have to take off the lower outer ring, too. Now, if it feels like a wobbly fit, turn it a bit sideways and add a bit (not much) pressure and you will get it firmly on there. Now, I don't like the immediate drench so, what I did is freeze my bottles first and let the sun slowly water them for me. There are now 3 bottles of water in the fridge at all times now and my plants get a nice lil' sip from sunrise to sundown.

Not really pleassed
I needed spikes for watering since I'm fairly lazy. These 'spikes' aren't really ideal. Firstly, they only fit conventional water bottles, none of the discount brands; Secondly, they have to be completely removed from the soil to refill the water bottle, which means (in my case) re-stabbing the soil to put back in for use. They do work really well, other than the two annoyances mentioned.

Works great, but requires a little tweaking.
This work perfectly, but it takes a little tweaking. First of all you have to be sure and remove that ring below the bottle cap. Second not every pop bottle works. Fill the pop bottle with water and screw on the nozzle but do not over tighten. Turned upside down over a sink the water will come out quickly for about a second and then slowed to a trickle. This is what you want. Occasionally with some pop bottles the water just flows too fast, almost gushes. Toss the pop bottle and get a new one. I found about a quarter of my pop bottles were like this. Then just shove into the soil around your potted plant.depending on the compactness of the soil it may take an hour or so or two, but on occasion I've had the bottle empty over two days. Which is fine. A slow soaking.

slight problem with evelots plant watering spikes
Well, so far the only bottle I have found that will fit into the screw slots is a pellegrino mineral water bottle. Was disappointed that a standard water bottle would not screw in and it will not work with a wine bottle. I guess if I want more water volume I need to purchase quart pellegrino bottles. But once I figured that out, they work fine. I was ready to send them back.

Perfect for watering down to the roots
For our garden - gets dry fast, these are garden savers. Even used a few in our hanging baskets this year as it was a hot one. Would recommend either cutting off end tip or making a few more holes for a faster and more thorough watering. Tight fit on the screw end too. If not for the small holes and only 2 of them, I would give 5 stars.

just what I needed
I really like these spikes. I live in a very hot and dry locale, so watering is definitely. I bought a set of these and they worked very well, good enough that I bought a second set to help keep my plants happy in preparation for a long hot summer. They have screw caps, so the bottles will remain in place and a couple of holes to release the water towards the bottom. I have had a slight issue with a couple of the spikes not releasing the water but after adjusting the tilt of the spike they worked fine. So I guess the worst thing I have to say about these is that they can be fickle, but I am still a fan. Hoping for a happy garden!
