This one had a few slow spots but all in all- a pretty good read. Closer to 3 stars than a full four. I'm in

Early Julie
"Rebellious Desire" is one of Julie Garwood's earlier works. Therefore it is not quite as polished as her more recent novels, as seen through a significant use of exclamation marks and various wording. However, that does not make this novel any less appealing. It follows the typical romantic storyline of where it's obvious that the couple love each other, but for some reason they are trying to deny it, as well as some hidden agenda that is slowly revealed & that they have to work together in order to figure it all out.The prologue throws us into a dark chilly night where a young damsel (circa 1700s) is defending her daddy via a pistol. Then we jump to 14 years later where she returns to England & is reunited with her father. She has no recollection of the night mentioned in the prologue, only that she had an extreme phobia of pistols when she was younger & worked to overcome it to the point where she could "shoot a speck of dust."We get to be a part of the beauty, Caroline, and her cousin, Chasity, being introduced to the socially elite ton of England & the intriguing Earls, Duke, Marquis, etc. Some are accepting and others love to walk around with their noses in the air.The night that she can't remember comes back to haunt Caroline although she doesn't realize it. Her love interest, Jered/Bradford, is the one who gets answers and figures out what's going on. Together with her friends, family, and love interest she battles against someone who has taken quite a dislike to her.In short, Rebellious Desire is typical early Julie Garwood (circa 1986), but just as desirable as any of her more recent novels. As always, a definite must read from a brilliant & accurate authour.

Great Julie Garwood historical story.
I enjoyed Rebelious Desire. I particularly liked how Caroline and Bradford met. The carriage hijack of his friend Brummell was well written and I felt the immediate connection between Bradford and Caroline. I was hoping that Brummell would play a bigger part in the story because it was even more enjoyable when they later met at one of the balls. The little mystery that was added in the story was a little blan. It wasn't very angsty. The idea of Caroline being sent away to the colonies when she was 4 was sad. I do believe she had a wonderful life with her aunt and uncle though. It was just sad for the missed years she lost with her father and he ended up so lonely. The nice part about the mystery is that there were a few different villians to choose from so I wasnt really sure who the culprit that wanted to kill Caroline was. The disappointment with the entire mystery was that it took the entire book to figure out and then at 99% you found out who it was and it was over in one page. I just seemed a bit of a let down.I never read two more stubborn characters. Neither one would give in to each other and it was humourous to guess how far they'd go.Great story.

good
This was a story of a woman who lived in boston for most of her life coming back to England and falling in love with someone strong enough to be her man.I liked how love really influenced the heroine actions, but although she had a lot of sweet qualities, I found the hero lacking in consideration. Some of his actions were too egotistical. He was domineering almost to the point of me routing for her to run back to Boston. So aside from her physical reactions, and their verbal spars igniting feelings, I didn't seen how she could love him so much given his need to control her and her need to be independent.I liked the main characters in the beginning but by mid book I grew frustrated with the character development. The heroine became less independent and bended to the heros will too easily, and all on account of her attraction and love for him. Her actions at times toward the end seemed out of character, and the heros transformation happened a bit too quickly. One day he's steadfast in being an ass to her and then all if a sudden he realizes he loves her. I didn't see the build up.But, overall I would say the quality and plot development was pretty good and the length was satisfying. I gave it 4 stars because of that.

An easy fun read but...
Julie Garwood's historical romances are light on the history and heavy on the fluff but so are a lot books in the genre. The saving grace is that Garwood's characters aren't basically modern people dressed in period costumes and on an historical stage. Her weakness is that her "voice" is the same in every book of hers I've read, which makes her characters incredibly similar, to the point where they're almost interchangeable. Oddly enough, this is far more true for secondary characters than the hero and heroine; Charity, the cousin in this book and Mary, the sister in "The Bride" feel like the same character only with Charity's part smaller and less integral to the story. That being said, I truly enjoy reading Julie Garwood's books and have reread them all many times over the years. There's nothing better than curling up on a gloomy day with a book that's all sweetness and light! Even though this book, like so many of Garwood's books, was written well before the current trend of explicit sex that in no way diminishes the intensity of the romance of the story and, of course, the HEA.

Disappointed
Julie Garwood is one of my top 5 favorite authors, so when I saw one of her books that I actually hadn't read...total excitement! Boy, what a letdown. I really hate it when I just can't like one of the main characters. In the case, the hero was such an egotistical, overbearing jerk that I kept hoping the heroine would walk away from him and take up with his best friend! The plot was a little "out there," too.2 1/2 Stars rounded up to 3

rebellious deflation
started off well enough quite enticing but lost its luster almost as if it deflated !!!!!SPOILER he was all alphaness in the beginning that gradually became slightly obsessive then culminated into a bit of an org she on the other hand though this was the so called 1800s was a 2012 female started off confident devil may care, mouth shooting, gun totting female but slowly became depressed then slightly submissive almost like an abuse victim but she was never abused ,she cried after they had sex every time which grinded my nerves the heat between the two deflated as he left her for weeks at a time even chucked her out of his house ,and though most of the time we were told it was for her sake no emotion on his end was felt ,we were also introduced to an interesting character in the beginning who totally disappeared from the story ,left me wondering why was he described in the first place???????????????last issue i had was the whole plot building throughout the book on bad guy was done away with in two lines weird????i love garwood books this was ok but not wow and left me wondering it was neither here nor there!!!

not as good as other offerings by this author
I enjoyed this book. If there was a 3.5 Id have given that instead. It was a good read, not much by way of storyline. It was a classic romantic book with a silly side story that they could have done without. The pace of the book was a tad slow and found myself skipping through scenes. Not up to her usual standard but worth a read
