excellent size and shape
Several years ago my husband and I took "wine class;" that is, a community course about wines, food pairings, history, etc. The teacher had mentioned that larger, crystal glasses were perfect for red wines, but we dallied for a few years before finally getting a set. Frankly, I was surprised at how great these glasses were. They are a really nice size, only moderately larger than the usual wine glasses, but about twice as large as the less expensive kind you find at discount stores. The shape is elegant, perfect for casual as well as nice dinners. They really do improve the overall experience of red wines. The larger bowl means the wine gets exposed to more air and can breathe. My husband is convinced the very slight lip on the glasses helps as well. Also, your nose gets down into the glass when you drink, and since scent and taste are so closely linked it really improves the overall flavor. We've used these with grenache, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, zinfandel, and blends. My only complaint is that these are somewhat more delicate than I'm used to. It's not a complaint about the glasses themselves, but more of a warning to others. The stem on one broke the very first day we used it, after a relatively light tap against a casserole dish sitting next to it in the kitchen. I bought a second set and hand wash them, as I wouldn't personally put these through the dishwasher because they are somewhat thin. For the price, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys red wines.

Great deal for these wine glasses
Great deal for these wine glasses! Ordered them and got them overnight just in time for my Friday Wine Night party at my apartment with my girl friends. They are durable but feel like a nice quality wine glass. I bought it because of all the great reviews on them for an entry level wine drinker but also constantly recommended by Sommeliers' and food/wine critics as they are versatile (great for a variety of grapes and types of wine/liquor). I am a fan. It's an extra plus that they are short enough to fit in my cabinets as most other wine glasses I was looking into were very tall. I would definitely recommend getting them from amazon as they were more expensive or harder to find in other stores.

Perfect red Wine glasses
These are the PERFECT red wine glasses! Sturdy thin crystal yet tough enough for everyday along with the perfect lightly shorter stem so as not to be top heavy. The elongated cup provides for more wine or great swirling!

Decent daily glass
More like a water glass than a wine glass. Squatty. Durable glass.

Nice short glasses
I wanted to upgrade my wine glasses, but was running into a problem. Most "modern" wine glasses are 9 or more inches tall, but the old cabinets in my kitchen don't have any shelves with more than 8.5 inches of clearance. These met all of my requirements - they fit in my cabinets and they have a nice big bowl to swirl and collect aromas. The glass is reasonably thin, but not so much I feel like they'll break easily.

Relax, get your swirl on, and enjoy the wine!
I think Reidel glasses have the perfect shape for enhancing enjoyment of any red wine. Compared to the Vinum (or higher) series of Reidels, and I find the shorter profile and slightly thicker (though plenty thin enough!) stems and bowls make it easier to focus on enjoying the wine, rather than worrying about tipping over or breaking the glass. They're only about ten bucks each, so it's no Shakespearian tragedy if one gets broken at a dinner party.

Wine tastes better in this glass!
I was very reticent to buy a glass for my $9.00/bottle of Mondavi Reserve Chardonnay; however, I love the ritual of having a glass of wine after the day is done and I'm watching the sunset. I succumbed and bought them. They actually work. The same wine tastes much better in myRiedel glass than it did in my dollar store glass (which, btw, looks the same as this one). So, for all you skeptics like me out there, this actually works. It doesn't make it into a $100 bottle but I didn't say it was magical!
