Spalding NBA Pebble Composite Leather Pad Holder

I bought this notebook/pad holder for an avid teenage basketball player/fan for Xmas, and he loved it. I had originally decided on a different and less expensive notebook somewhat similar to this one but, after reading reviews stating the cover of the cheaper product did not have an actual pebbled surface as the notebook's cover, I went with this one which was the more expensive and higher quality product. As soon as you pick this attractive notebook up you can feel its heft and the graininess of its cover and know that this notebook is something that will last our young friend for years to come. Excellent product, highly recommended.

Cosmetics: Looks great on the outside, definitely feels like a basketball and even smells like one. Could have done a little better job on the inside where the basketball material ends, and where the clips are.Usefulness: Comes with an entire stack of lined paper on the right side, which is awesome. And the left side has a pocket for sliding papers on. It would be nice if the pocket could fit more than it does though. It has a little slot for a pen as well but is too tight. Its impossible to hold a pen and a small stack of paper without stretching the black material too much and deforming it.Other than that though I am very satisfied with my purchase.

This folder is a great conversational piece and useful! The outside actually feels like a basketball. Comes with a notepad that has the NBA logo on each sheet. Nice and thin notebook. They also have a smaller notebook which I also bought.

Having seen these in the past, I've always wanted one to escape the meeting doldrums. Take that, PowerPoint. I'm going crossover dribble with my comprehensive notes.Here's the unfortunate turnover:The pad holder is 8 x11. Yes, you read that correctly. In an amazing stroke of poor planning, this comes with - and will fit - pads just UNDERr letter size, like a glove. Normal pads? The slot simply isn't big enough. I tried multiple, mainstream (Staples, Office Depot) letter size pads, and found them stretching the slot to its limits.The same can be said of the supposed pen holder useful for only very thin BIC pens. I also would expect this slot to stretch too far, too soon, losing said pen. Expect to clip pens into the inside of the binder instead.In sum, this is a great idea...but not executed as well as it should. Extending the pad, pen slots would've gone a long way in declaring this the king of all pad holders.**UPDATE: Some smarter-than-me work colleagues indicated this binder likely sized for 'European' sized, A4 pads. Can't find 'em?, easy 1 minute solution: Trim 1/4 - 1/2 an inch, vertically, along each side of the cardboard backing on a normal sized (8.5x11) pad. Stop, however, about 8/10 of the way up (so the top integrity of the pad isn't compromised). At this point, cut horizontally or slightly angled to the edges of the pad. Your pad should now fit perfectly. :)Added another star thanks to intelligent co-workers.

I really like the NBA Pad holder. It has the feel of a real basketball on the outside and everyone who sees it is interested in it as well. It does what it is supposed to do (holds a pad with a space for pen and business cards) and seems to be high quality. A great novelty gift
