Literally a Life Saver
This product is very effective! I don’t know how many creatures it has saved this past year, but I have personally seen 3 baby bunnies who have fallen in the pool be saved by this scamper ramp. I have bought a lot of items over the years and this rates as one of my finest purchases. Every pool should have one.

VERY rough edges
11 Years ago I had this when my dog was just a puppy. We moved to house without a pool. Then we put in a pool in 2021. looked for this again because it worked so well. I finally found it after about 2 years of looking but when I got it , all of the holes in the plastic were jagged and very rough. I was worried it would cut my dogs paws, especially if they were wet from being in the pool. I decided to keep it and file them all smooth with a small fingernail sander I have. It did the job. And now when I open the pool this year I will have peace of mind that my senior pups have a way to get out if they fall in.

Garbage
First let me say that I really wanted to like this product. I purchased it for my 25 lb Shiba Inu. (a relatively small dog). While it seemed like a good idea, unfortunately, it just does not work. The holes in the product for traction let water through. In action, this means that if any amount of weight it placed on it the ramp(very quickly) the side in the pool sinks and the device becomes completely vertical no matter how it is secured (we tried how the manufacturer suggested, and then everything else we could think of). Can your pet climb a straight up and down slippery wall with quarter size holes in it? Because that's basically what this ramp becomes in about 2 seconds flat. For very small critters (frogs, squirrels, or whatever) this might work. For dogs I don't really see how it could work unless there was something helping to support the ramp so it doesn't immediately sink. What shocked me most is the amount of good reviews this has. There is a different listing for this ramp on Amazon that currently has 10 reviews, almost all bad. Check it out, and do what I didn't and check out some YouTube videos of this product being used in a normal at-home pool. In the videos where you can see that the ramp is not supported from the bottom it starts to sink immediately, naturally scaring the dog who realizes it won't support their weight. The only exception was one with the large scamper ramp with extension and a dog that was probably 15 lbs tops. The other listing on Amazon with more reviews indicate that for dogs 40+ lbs it doesn't work - even though it's supposed to be good up to 200 lbs. That one *might* work okay for most small dogs. This ramp, without the extension, is completely useless.

Peace of Mind
We recently brought a new kitten home and were very concerned about it falling in the pool when we were away. Our larger adult can is able to pull himself out, but the kitten would have no chance. We had to restrict the cat door so that he was unable to go near the pool when we were gone, this disrupted the pattern of our other cat. Once we installed the Skamper ramp, we wanted to train kitty to use it. This part is critical. We placed him in the pool near the middle and watched him swim around a bit. Someone was in the pool to assist. At first we had installed the ramp at the end of the pool opposite the steps, but then noticed it was kitty's instinct to swim to the steps. (he probably had seen humans get out that way)So we moved the ramp next to the steps and handrail. We placed him in again and he went directly to it and climbed up the ramp. We place him in the pool at least once a week to be sure he understands how to use the ramp and each time he is more proficient at using the skamper ramp. I almost think he likes the pool. So, train your animal to use it. Don't just assume they can, although I still think it would save their life without training them. The point is to have peace of mind that your animal will not drown. That is what Skamper Ramp has given us.

A must have for all dog and pool owners!!
This arrived promptly in excellent condition. Packaged well with everything you need to install it. I will say this is my 2nd one of these and without a doubt one the best investments I have ever purchased for peace of mind with my dogs. I only replaced it because after 6 years our 1st one got brittle from the elements, and to last 6 years isn't bad if you know how the water and sun and have a wear and tear on pool supplies, toys, etc. This is something both of my Lhaso Apso's pups know about. We worked with them to know to paddle back to the Skamper Ramp and every year they will jump in the swim back to the ramp!! I feel more at ease letting them outside because I know they know how to get out... see they couldn't climb up the regular ladder. This is a must have with pets, and I highly recommend it just for peace of mind!! Work with your animals and they will know what it's for!! Hey we even saved a frog on it once, Ha ha!!
