Powerful, but not perfect!
Wanted to lower noise from a Zalman CNPS7000C-Cu, plus CPU was reaching design maximum of 210 degrees and throttling. FYI, that won't destroy your computer, it just sucks.Installed the Kotetsu. Immediately notice it is quieter. Did some high usage work (rendering) and peak temperature was 30 degrees less! Now to be fair the old heatsink had dried out thermal compound. So, who knows. But it got too hot and went down that path. Now with a fresh coat and this Kotetsu, I seem to have better tolerances.I feel it's STILL getting too hot since peak temperatures across chips ranged from 172-179 degrees (under full load), but, I'll take it I guess. Seems to be idling from 110-120.Installing this was, hmm, a little much. Needs its own backing plate, so that means completely disassembling the computer and then once it was in, installing the fan, well, it uses these tensioned wire clips which are elegant I guess, but require even more clearance to install and are just hard to use. How about some aluminum screws, man.All in all, this seems to offer excellent performance and it's actually quieter than almost all other fans. Recommended. LGA1156.

Was an excellent upgrade.
Fan was an excellent upgrade to the provided cpu cooling system. Lasted me at eight years at this point(2023). I have since upgraded to a new pc build but this one still sits in the old computer which is now used by the kiddos!

Cool, inexpensive, and capable of absolute dead silence.
This is an excellent CPU cooler which cools extremely well even at low RPMs.My scratch-built case can go from room-cleaning (yes, literally) levels of airflow to completely silent with all of the case fans off, and the Intel stock cooler was too loud for me when the rest of the fans were off. My power supply makes basically no noise, there are no hard disks, and I switched my graphics card cooler for a fanless one, so when I say this is silent, it's not merely quieter than anything else: it's silent. The Kotetsu is completely inaudible when at 25% pwm (460 rpm, at least my copy). I can only barely hear it with my ear pressed to the case, and as long as I'm not touching it, it might as well not make any noise at all. When the case fans are off, circulation is slightly restricted, but it still limits my 84-watt processor to a temperature rise of roughly 45 C above ambient even when running Prime95 for hours, with the Kotetsu fan at 500 RPM. With the case fans on, it's barely 30 C above ambient. All in all, it's an amazing value for a silent, effective CPU cooler.

Great cooler
Great product, but my CPU cooling fan for this has a tick which means that the bearings are probably no good. I sent an email to Scythe to send replacement fan and haven't even received an automated response yet. Other than that, this is a quality product!

Other than that it works fine.
It works very well, but it is too tall for most cases. Be warned about the unit's height, and make sure it will work in your case. I have a normal case, and the side panel presses against the top of the cover of the case. Other than that it works fine.

One of the better coolers available
This is one of the better air cooled CPU heatsinks available, a second one I'm buying after reading recommendations from silentpcreview. Additionally the fan can be upgraded for an even better performance, although not needed, as the one that comes in the package is very efficient and also quiet. Many new heatsinks released in the past decade look similar, but don't be deceived, they don't perform the same.

NOT compatible with dual Xeon boards - LGA 1366
UPDATE: Using standard PCB standoffs - M3 12x6 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AO40MUA/ - instead of the supplied screws worked. The cooler itself works great (1 week after installing, 2 of them on a dual Xeon board), however, the universal LGA 1366 compatibility claims are false. Hence, the 1 start rating.ORIGINAL REVIEW:The dual Xeon server boards have non-removable backplates already installed, which have different size screw holes, so you can't use the included screws. I will try using standard PCB standoffs - M3 12x6 - instead of the supplied 'Stud Nuts' to attach the cooler that way. Which of course now I have to buy separately in bulk quantities. Unclear at this point if this solution will even work.In the picture, the Scythe screw is on the left, with the stock Intel cooler screw on the right.

Quieter, Cooler, and Easier to install than the Hyper 212 Plus
Bought this for a 2011 socket Xeon E5-2630 V2 chip and this CPU cooler has exceeded my expectation. I read the reviews of this on Silent PC Reviews praising this over the Hyper 212 Plus, but took it with a gain of salt. However, after purchasing it, I can say it is definitely better than the Hyper 212 Plus I have on my i5-2500K build which is louder and is semi-painful to install. Overall this Scythe CPU cooler not only runs quieter and cooler than the Hyper 212 Plus, it also was a breeze to install.I can highly recommend this!

Buen disipador de Calidad
LLevo mas de 3 años con el comprado en amazon desde el 2015, y tiene mucho mejor rendimiento que mi activo CM 212 evo y menos ruidoso, recomendado al 100% y si instalacion es muy sencilla.
