A good simple MP3 player!! Worth it!!
Would've given 4.5 stars if possible!WELL WORTH THE MONEY, PEOPLE. WELL WORTH IT. Just play with the controls, you'll get it soon enough.Pressing the PLAY/PAUSE button = turning on/offHolding the MODE button = previous menu accessMODE left/right = selecting options, next/previous songMost of the time people search for MP3 players that have all the bells & whistles; playlists, touchscreen, movie/picture showing, as well. I wasn't looking for that. I just wanted something that I could put my music on, like a gig-stick, and that thing could just show me the name of the music and play it back. This is EXACTLY what it is.You put music on it. You can see the title of the song, alphabetical order. You can play it. You can go forward and back. For anyone looking for something simple in the age of "overdone," this is the relief.Like another reviewer said, however, there is an additional step needed to be done to use all 4GB. You need to "format" the drive to "FAT32" [which is an option in a drop down box] instead of "FAT", which is very simple. Follow the instructions at the website below, and you'll see the FAT32 option and, bingo, 4GB for $12.40 where it takes near $80 to get it otherwise.[...]

> DOES THE JOB
OVERALL: A good MP3 player which operates on a single replaceable AAA. Good for audiobooks and other general purposes. It is also sold under the Coby brand at 2x to 4x the price of the Irulu version. Despite comments of other reviewers, it DOES play standard WMA files (e.g., made by ripping CDs with Windows Mediaplayer). I have not tried protected-WMA files.FOR AUDIOBOOKS:> Folders play in the order loaded. Tracks (within folders) play in alpha-numeric order. So, if your audiobook is in multiple folders (as it will be if ripped from CDs using Mediaplayer), then load the folders, one-at-a-time in the order you want them to play. The tracks within each folder will play in the proper order.> If you stop play, turn off the player and restart, the player restarts where you left off--perfect for audiobooks (oddly this feature is NOT available on most other MP3 players).> Plays MP3 and WMA files. Also plays many other file types such as WMV, ASF, WAV, etc.> The included earbuds are adequate for listening to audiobooks.FOR MUSIC ALBUMS> Folders play in the order loaded. So, load your albums (folders) in the order you want them to play. Tracks (within folders) play in alpha-numeric order. If you want individual tracks to play in a different order, then add alphanumeric prefixes, such as "aa", "bb" or "01" "02" to the names of each track. If you stop play and turn off the player, the player restarts where you left off.EARBUDS: The included Airline/Apple-type earbuds are poor. I recommend Coby J-buds JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White) J-buds are great for use in public or noisy places. At home, etc., inexpensive behind-the-neck headphones are the most comfortable. GE 95352 Lightweight Behind-the-Neck Headphone (Black) PROS> Nice swiveling connector. With a key-type clip or "caribiner" (not included) can easily attach to beltloops, etc. Alternatively, an easy way to carry the player is from a short light neckcord. COSMOS 5 pcs Black Neck Strap Band Lanyard For Camera, Cell phone, mp3, mp4 and other Lightweight Electronic Devices > Takes a single (changeable) AAA battery, which I consider more convenient than having to plug into a computer when the rechargeable battery (of other players) dies.> Unlike many MP3 players, can be operated by touch because the three control buttons are at distinctly different locations (top, front, and bottom)> Built-in full-size USB plug is nominally a plus, but most computer USB connectors are recessed, which means you need a short USB extension cord anyway.> Numerous options (equalize, shuffle etc.), if you want to bother to explore and set them, but works fine "out-of-the-box" with the default settings.> Thank heaven for the lack of a stupid "repeat" button, which can accidentally get you caught in an endless loop. Repeat is available via the menu if you want it.CONS> Neither the USB plug cover nor the battery cover are attached, and therefore are easy to loose. To replace the battery, you have to remove both covers.> The "mode lever" is too easy to move--probably a problem if you carry the player in your pocket, but not so much if you "hang" it from a belt loop etc.> Most functions depend on pressing either quickly or less-quickly, etc. It often takes alot of fiddling to do what you want to do. It could use a dedicated "navigation" button.> It is hard to tell which selection is chosen in the menus, because selections are indicated only by a slight shadow.> Unnecessarily large and bulky (compared to the Creative Zen Nano {no longer available} which also ran on a single AAA battery.> When you turn it on, a tiny message "starting" appears which is hard to see.> There is no indication on the main display what folder you are playing. (although a great amount of other useless information is displayed)> Other than the display freezing, there is no indication that you are in "pause" mode.BASIC OPERATION:> Insert an AAA battery, plug into your computer USB port, "drag and drop" MP3 or WMA files from your computer.> To turn on, press the big "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button in front.> With the "mode lever" select "MSC" (music).> To play, click the "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button.> To adjust the volume, click the + or - toggle at the bottom of the player> To move forward one track, click the "mode lever" to the right> To move backward one track, click the "mode lever" to the left> To move forward within a track (to "fast forward"), push the "mode lever" to the right> To move backward within a track (to "reverse"), push the "mode lever" to the left> To pause, click the "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button.> To turn off, press the "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button> To restart, press the "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button."click" means to press and quickly release; "press" means to press and hold for a second or so; "push" means to push and hold as long as necessaryIn short, the "ON/OFF/PLAY/PAUSE" button is very easy to find by touch and handles all routine operations (except "forward" and "backwards"), which is very convenient.MAXIMIZING BATTERY LIFE: The best strategy to maximize battery life is to use J-buds (or similar in-the-ear earbuds) mentioned above. They are very "efficient" which means that they produce the same volume at a lower power drain. To test the efficiency of headphones, just plug them in and listen (without adjusting the volume)---the loudest will be the most efficient.INSTRUCTIONSDespite the complaints of other reviewers that the "manual" is poor--in fact it is better written and more complete than most inexpensive Chinese electronics. Oddly the instruction "manuals" vary between the colors. If the three players I purchased (red, blue, black), the black one came with the most complete instructions.> Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews, or leave a comment to ask a question.

Great little MP3 player, excellent value
Finding a decent MP3 player that runs on AAA batteries is a pain. Most have built-in batteries that just don't last. The iRULU was an unexpected find - great sound (use good ear buds, the ones supplied don't do justice to the player) and easy to load files/create folders. And all that for such a low price (check out the pricey competition, which is limited to expensive equipment with no option for changing the short lived rechargeable batteries.Main Pro's:Convenient rechargeable AAA batteries, last at least 15 hours (yes, the Sanyo Eneloop are great; I also use Rayovac hybrids)Although the instructions were not precise it was easy to figure out how to use this player (ACCDepot were extremely responsive; sent a 23 page manual after I bought the iRULU). Don't be afraid to PLAY with this, it's funWell constructed - I disagree with those who refer to this as cheap plastic; it has a nice velvety texture with good grip; feels solidUSB connectivity is so simple; drop and drag music files is a real plus (again, better than the finicky Sandisk Sansa I have)Instead of playlists I make folders (same thing really) and can select which ones I want to play by doing the following: pause the music, press the mode button to highlight files, press again and navigate through the folders by pressing/levering the mode burtton; when selecting folder, hold down the mode button for a few seconds and the music will appearCon'sAlthough indicated, it does not shuffle music beyond a few repeated loops (ACCDepot is looking into this since some users have complained)Wma files did not play well, for some reason; I converted all my music to MP3 which solved the problem (others say that wma files play just fine)In summary, a great versatile player that is cheap but not nasty. Lots of fun too!PS: I have 2 iRULU players; one is formatted FAT, the other FAT2. Can't see the difference

Excellent product.
A nice produce well built and easy to use, I have been using this for 1 month now and have no complaints.Sure I already have smartphone, but it s much more practical to use my MP3 player instead of running the risk of running out of charge while taking a long walk or hiking. Also most people need a thumb drive to move data around, this give you the same functions of a thumb drive, the benefit of music and the peace of mind of not draining your phone charge if you are going to be away from mains for some time. The User interface is easy to use, there is a lock function so that the device can be left in a pocket without going changing you songs, the songs are played either by folder or repeat all so making a play list is easily done by copying your tracks into folders. Have one folder for say "soul" and another for "Rock" and you can easily choose between the two on the device to have a customized playlist or play all the tracks on the device.

Useless!
This didn't work at all. the instructions were in very broken English (written in China) and several other people couldn't work it out. Bought it so I could listen to music while climbing Kilimanjaro for charity but it wouldn't download anything from my i-tunes & it was too late to send back or get a replacement so climbed in silence!

Not working at all
I would definitely not recommend to buy this item.First of all, the company made a mistake and sent me the product twice although I only ordered one item. I had to pay for both.Secondly, both mp3 players didn't work when I unpacked them, they were both faulty. Couldn't return them because I didn't have time. So, I can't say anything about how iRulu deals with returns. The only thing I would recommend is not to buy anything from iRulu.

Good little battery powered device
Works very well but this device is very fiddly to use as you have to do a lot of button pressing to search through the different music tracks. But at the price you cannot really complain and the batteries seem to last a long time. The main reason I brought this device was that it has a battery and if away from PC or charger on holiday which I am it is priceless.
