What I like about this particular chess set is that the peices fit well, and feel good when you grasp them. The board is wide and easy to see. Some of the peices, namely the king and queen are stylistic to this type of design. The board is also light.What I wish was apart of this set: Extra queens. A more solid build in mesh for your peices. Plastic doesnt do it justice. When you shake the board around the peices get mixed and fall out of place because the inserts to hold the peices are cheap. Although they are lighly felted. The clasps are a bit cheap. And occassionally the pieces are not as refined as actual championship sets. Refined being (Polished satin finish) or (every peices is symmetrical) their will be imperfections in this set.And lastly even though it seems like a great set and it is, their are exact copies of the same board, same piece's, same quality at half the price labeled "Ambassador set" by weigel. The only thing different is the price.So yes: "giftable", "craftsmanship", and value for mon....ey...???"

I've been in the market for a new chess board. I did some research on "large chess boards" and "large chess pieces", and i settled on taking a chance on this particular one. I will not lie, I was worried the entire time that once received I wasn't going to like it. I thought it would be smaller than what I had hoped for and I thought that it was going to be made of poor quality. I received my board in 2 days after I was advised that it would take 5 days. (GREAT JOB AMAZON!!!). I could not wait to open it and even then I felt a little scared because I didn't know what to expect. But even before I opened it, the reported 5 pounds was felt almost immediately. I then became extremely excited. I wanted a heavier board. Opened up the box to find a really secured and tightly wrapped product. Once opened, I immediately saw the beautiful craftsmanship of the board. Beautifully engraved and stained. Before I took the pieces out, I wanted to know where it was made. I was going to be extremely upset if the board was made in China, but to my extreme surprise, it was made in Poland. PERFECT!!! I then took out the pieces and was just overwhelmed with satisfaction on how large and sturdy and finely crafted they were. I set up the board immediately and was awestruck on how beautifully spaced out it was. I am totally impressed. Disregard the negative remarks listed on this product review. It was well worth the price and the shipping costs. I am totally in love with my new chess board... If I have any reservations, it's the durability to the hook locks that keep the board closed together. We will see how long it lasts. Hopefully forever... GREAT BOARD, GREAT PRICE!!!

If I rate it poorly, will I have less competition for buying more? Even if it would, this set is so nice that such a review would be a stark injustice.In my opinion, this, and what seems to be the same product through one or two other vendors, is the best chess set available through Amazon.Exquisite wood craftsmanship (not machine perfect; it was clearly mass-produced by hand given the nature of cosmetic imperfections in my set, but I got a discount accepting a returned set, so mine probably has more of those than average), great weight and feel, and full size make this set a pleasure to play with.The one thing that I felt could be improved was the shells for the pieces: They are thin but rigid plastic with a velvet finish. I repurposed the packing paper that came in my Amazon box by folding it behind the shells to better secure the pieces and keep them from rattling in the shell, but better inserts for the pieces would probably be the best way to improve this set.

The product is exactly as described except it was damaged in shipping. There wasn't a lot of bubble wrap in the box to keep it from bumping around so all the pieces were shuffled and the hinges on the board were torn off. Though there are scratches on one of the corners of the board and it won't stay together to be carried, it still looks fine when you play on it and none of the pieces are broken so I'm not going to go through the work/cost of exchanging it and avoid the risk of the same or worse happening.The pieces are beautifully done. They are sturdy and held up well during shipping when the board was damaged, so they are not going to break easily. The board is a nice large size but not too big. 5 stars for the product for sure, but it could have been packaged better to avoid the damage sustained.

We purchased the Jarilo chess set and we absolutely love it. It is elegant and beautifully crafted. The marerial is high quality. My children love to play chess and they all say that the Jarilo is their favorite set. Im so happy with this purchase!

Now you have to know up front when buying online I generally look at the three star and lower reviews, so I ordered this set with a lot of skepticism, just sure something was going to be FUBAR,...... Boy was I wrong!! I got the set and carefully un-packed it and was just amazed. It is PERFECT!! Seems that all the every flaw that had been complained about in the three star and less reviews had been addressed by the manufacturer!! So being eager to show it off and being a good ole boy, I invite my buddies over and we all set out on the porch {now that the weather is finally getting nice out} and play from noon until sunset. I enjoy all the compliments this beautiful the set gets, and everyone loves to play on it!!Bravo to those who made the set!! I couldn't be happier with my new chess set. For those who want to "give as gift",.....fear not!! I came double box packaged with the outside box being Amazon's shipping box. My only critique..... the inner part of the board could have been nicer,.....but it does the job ok and to me thats all that matters.Do I recommend this set?? YOU BET!!!
