This live recording of the Chicago blues band, taped in 2005 at the Sierra Nevada Brewery, showcases Slim's slashing, vibrato-drenched guitar, mountain-moving vocals and presents an authentic South Side, back-alley excursion into the true blues.

Magic Happens Here!
This is one foot stompin' blues DVD! I have a few old CD's of his and this just goes to show how good an artist he is by being better live than on CD. Fun, get down, party time blues. Not all blues songs are slow and have to have gravelly vocals, as Magic Slim proves on this DVD. The performance is powerful and very entertaining with out having to get flashy, the Audio is very clean and well mixed as is the Video. This is a great DVD to watch if you have the Blues and want to feel better about the Blues your in. Highly recommended to any Blues fan and especially any Magic Slim fan, it's a no brainier!I wish Amazon had a 3 criteria rating that would make for a quicker, more accurate and fair rating of Cd's, DVD's and Blu-ray's.1. Performance2. Quality of Audio3. Quality of Video (for DVD's and Blu-ray's)1.*****2.*****3.*****Artists that wish to have there performances recorded and recognized should be held to a standard. Poor Audio or Video, no matter how good the performance, is still a bad product. Those who would still purchase sub-standard Audio or Video quality recordings and rank that product highly just because of performance are not doing the industry or the band justice. Demand better and we will get it, settle for less and that's what you'll get.

Magic Slim and the Teardrops at their best
Quite simply the best blues DVD I've seen. Magic Slim's beautiful and extended solos are pristine, every note crystal clear. The teardrops lay down a groove in the first cut that's irresistible and it follows them throughout the set. Vernal Taylor's drumming is impeccable, especially the work on the high-hat; Jon McDonald's driving rhythm and tight solos really set the tone. Christopher Biedron provides solid though unobtrusive bass support. In my view, all numbers are superior to the studio versions. If you're a blues lover, this could be the best twenty bucks you'll ever spend.

NOT Magical
Save your money. Mediocre performance. A good bar band, perhaps, but certainly nothing inspiring on this dvd.

Great way to remember a great performer
I was so happy to get this DVD of Magic Slim performing. Magic Slim is getting older and someday we won't be able to enjoy his live performances anymore. Having this DVD is a great way to preserve that.

a blues lesson
For those who don't understand the difference between playing playing a blues tune, or playing blues-style, and playing the -the- blues, Magic Slim clears all confusion. Everything here is straight-ahead: shuffles, "lumps"(Jimmy Reed) slow blues, and fat-back. No fancy tricks, no jazzy add-ons, no technique-based showing-off. So what's so special? Real blues phrasing and tone, in a way that simply has to be heard to be understood. Every note has a purpose, and is dripping with the flavor of Slim's Mississippi-to-Chicago background.

I Love Magic Slim
Magic Slim's Chicago Style blues is hard driving mostly up tempo blues. He's great and probably underrated.
