Traditional dampers are located in the "throat" of a chimney. They are made of cast iron and housed in a low-tech frame. These cast iron shock absorbers do not seal well: they have a leaky, rough metal-to-metal seal. Recent laboratory studies have shown that even a new throat damper can leak up to $200 in heating and cooling a year. Imagine how much energy an old, rusty shock absorber leaks! Airtight energy saving dampers seal tightly to save you money. The Lock-Tights rubber gasket seals tightly like a storm door for your fireplace, and keeps your heating and cooling dollars where they should be... in your home. LockTight mounts to the top of your fireplace to keep animals and rain out, and works easily from inside your firebox, sealing tightly every time you close it, eliminating any draft. Stainless steel is the most popular cap material due to its longevity and flexibility of the fuel it burns. Which means if you have a wood burning fireplace and switch to gas logs, the stainless steel cap can handle the switch without worry.

Prompt delivery. Easy install, although my chimney tile has corners that are more curved than the bottom plate of the damper, requiring a little more creativity with silicone to completely fill voids. Other than that, very happy with quality, construction and ease of installation. Recommend product and vendor.

This works So wonderful. My husband was able to install by himself and said it was simple. We no longer feel the cold air coming in from the fireplace..The price was excellent as well..We saw the same thing at Lowes for double the amount.

Avoid this damper!
Although this damper stops drafts altogether, it will literally freeze shut when temperatures go below 15 degrees. The warm, moist air rises up from inside the house and creates a sheet of ice on the underside of the damper, sealing it shut and preventing it from lifting. There's nothing like coming home from a day at work and hoping to start a fire, only to find the damper frozen shut. Save your money and avoid this product at all costs!

Looks well built but missing safety wire
It definitely looks strong and well built. My biggest complaint is there is Not a safety wire when it specifies there is one.We have not installed it yet because of this.
