Handgun Combatives

I've only seen bits of Dave on 'Personal Defense' and have enjoyed his commentary and advice.For a guy who isn't one of these new Tactical Upstart types he is absolutely up on the most effective techniques....even when they may fly in the face of the Old Guard's SOPs.This tells me that Dave is not rigid and unwilling to change his mind should experience, evidence or the weight of accumulated facts over time indicate that one should adapt. ...or become extinct.Show me a trainer who has never changed his mind and I'll show you a person who you should not listen to.This book is the best book I've read thus far on technique and theory. Can't recommend it highly enough.I'm sure other reviews have dug out the tired old "must have" cliche but I'll pile on.This is an absolute must have if you're serious about your handling of firearms and are dedicate to continuous improvement.

I'll say I love it because so far it is verbatim to what I teach in our Police Academy (a Dept of 350 officers). With that, I have also picked up a thing or two and am only half way through it. I was cautious of ordering it because I only know Dave from the TV shows, which I usually steer clear of. But in this case he has presented useful and realistic information.

The information is relevent and thorough. This is a great starter book for someone just getting into handguns. It also helps the experienced shooter learn a thing or two.

Dave Spaulding offers practical information on the use of the handgun in defensive combat. Unlike some trainers, he acknowledges that there may be more than one way to perform a task related to handgun use.Dave also give good reasoning for why he does things a certain way, using economy of motion to accomplish the task most efficiently. I would jump at the chance to take a class with him.

Dave Spaulding knows what he's talking about. As a law enforcement officer who has seen and done a lot on duty and off, his book should be listed as required reading by anyone in law enforcement and anyone who carries a concealed weapon. It's a good read written with the authority of someone who has been there.

I've heard Dave Spaulding's name for many years and finally got around to reading his book. Most everything I read confirmed what I've heard about him. There were some things I disagreed with but as someone wiser than me said "if two people agree on everything one of them isn't necessary."Definitely a worthwhile addition to your library.

I've watched a few of the videos made by Dave Spaulding and he has presented so many ideas backed by logical thought. This book reflects his ability to get you thinking and efficient in your gun handling. You will not be sorry if you choose this book.

After watching Dave Spauldings video on Panteo.com I started looking for other information by the author. He has a realistic approach that focus on the now instead of stances and technical details (such a foot placement and stances) which may not be achievable in a real self defense situation and instead focus on the fundamentals situational awareness and engaging the threat at all costs.
