Good for what ot does
I guess I would give 5 stars for the product itself. There are a few different size lock holes, so make sure you get one that fits your computer. The cable is well made and stronger than needed. The cord length is more than ample. My minus one star would not be for the product itself but because the "weak link in the chain" is not the cable. The locking hole in the device itself is the weakest part of the system. One sharp tug results in the device coming free from the cable lock (I have tested this on old devices). So yes, it acts as a deterrent, but a thief in the know can grab your device with hardly any ruckus.

It fits my Dell Latituse 5500, as expected
Not a lot to say about this - it fits, I was able to set my own code, and install it on my laptop..The IKEA-like directions are adequate - you have to do the 6 step "reset combination" to set your initial 4-digit secret code combination. I had to use a small screwdriver instead of a paper clip. You use the 4-step instructions to install it on your laptop. How to remove it should be obvious - set your secret code, slide the lever on the side of the lock and pull it out of the laptop.I still haven't got over Dell changing to this wedge-shaped type of security device.

Lock for Dell. Difficult to lock for some Dell models.
I purchased this lock because it was the only one that would fit the smaller wedge notch for my Dell laptops. When I push the lock into the hole for my Dell XPS 15 it goes in with no problems. However, when I push the lock into the hole for my Dell Latitude 3410 the spring loaded latch does not always close. I have to turn the lock until it gets to a spot where the latch will fully close back to its original position. I'm then able to lock it. When it's time to take the lock out I have to turn it to just the right position for it to come out. I've only had this issue on my Dell Latitude. As others have stated, the roller wheels to change the numbers are very small and close to one another. It's difficult at times of trying to turn one number without having the adjacent number turn too.

It will Fail in a matter of Time
Purchased in June 2023 and it worked until 25 April 2025. It just would not open, it was like the combo some how changed on its own. I tried everything (YouTube Videos, etc…). I had to use a hack saw to remove it. Tips: Cut through the numbers. You will have to do something to hold the numbers as you saw because they will roll/move as you saw. Just keep going you can saw through it. When you saw through, use a screw driver to pry the mechanism and numbers out. The mechanism will release from the laptop. Good luck. Would not purchase again. Beware and listen to the reviews that say the plates slip and the combo just stops working.

Works with my newer Dell
It works well with my newer Dell laptop. Check the type before buying. I wish there is only one type...

Better than key cables
I was using a cable lock with keys until I lost one of the keys. The combo is safer and easier to use. The locking mechanism is strong and the cable is thicker than other brands. It won't stop a thief, but will be great for deterring them.

Needed a new lock as the original "Kensington" laptop T-bar didn't fit my new laptop
I thought all laptops still used the original lock type, but apparently there are at least 3 types now. After some research, I decided to stay with Kensington as I've had good luck with their cable locks. Initially I wanted another keyed cable lock, but opted for this combo lock as it's much more portable. Setting the combination was very easy and the numbers are easy to read with a good tactile feel. Very happy with my purchase and also that you can register the combination on their website for retrieval in case you forget it.
