POLARIS WATER HEATER 6903768 Hot Surface Ignitor

The manufacturer of this ignitor did a POOR job of protecting the ignitor element in its original packaging. The element is completely unsupported in the package, which has moderate-stiffness foam rubber wrapped around the BASE of the ignitor, but nothing in contact with the filament to keep it from BREAKING OFF if the package is dropped or roughly handled in shipping. The first one of these I ordered came with the filament completely broken off and thus useless. To its credit, Amazon allowed me to ship it back free of charge, but I had to go without hot water for a week while I awaited the arrival of a second one. Also, the ignitor is so tightly packed in its box, you have to be VERY CAREFUL when opening it, not to break the filament off, because of this poorly designed packaging. I was careful both times, but had to CUT THE BOX OFF the contents with a razor knife to avoid damage.

This is the third one I have purchased over the years. Usually they work well. The last one was purchased as a backup. When I needed it, 30 days past return date, I opened the package and parts fell out. I just ordered another one, my Polaris is down, and will try to get a credit for those that arrived broken. From now on, I will open my backups when they arrive.

What a waste of money. It arrived broken so now I'm still out of hot water, now have to wait for a refund to post to be able to reorder it. This is the worst. When I asked for a replacement I was issued the refund which doesn't help when I need the part.

Guaranteed Saturday delivery and it arrived as promised. This is the exact part, OEM, not a universal replacement as best I can tell. The Ohms reading was 70 right out of the box. It included a soft gasket that wasn't on my original heater--and I used it! I installed it according to the clear, well-printed instructions, turned on my water heater, and then ignition sequence was successful on the very first attempt.

Water heater stopped working, determined it was the ignitor. Shipped way a head of schedule (thank God!) Installed perfectly with no modifications. immediately worked and now have hot water again! Seller revised shipping container with heavy duty cardboard and foam surround. So far so good, we will see how long it lasts

It worked and arrived sooner than it would have been possible to get it locally. This is part number 6903768 but according to the American water heater web page, that part number is legacy and the new part number is 100093631 and corresponds to K,IGNITER REPLACEMENT,UNIVERSAL (also note that there is a prop 65 California warning on this product for some reason).
