Heartbreak in the form of breakfast
Oat so simple cinnamon is my favourite porridge, closely followed by the golden syrup flavour. I have these nearly everyday in the winter for breakfast, normally with a chopped up banana or something on top. They’re delicious, but of course if you’re having the same thing everyday it can get a little tedious and naturally I began to grow just a little tired of these much loved flavours.Yesterday I went to the supermarket and low and behold, there on the shelf was this. Strawberry jam flavour. My excitement was akin to that of a small child at Christmas. Of course I grabbed them, who doesn’t love strawberry jam?!This morning I woke up excited, I packed my new box of oats in my bag and practically skipped into the office (admittedly a little late because it’s snowing today and we all know what that does to the underground).Still nothing was going to make me miss breakfast today!However.. this is where things took a turn for the worst. As I chopped up my banana I couldn’t help but notice a foul smell coming from the microwave.. like burning plastic almost.Still I shrugged it off, presuming it was my imagination and plopped my banana on top of my oats. I gave it a stir, blew on my spoon and savoured my first bite.Disgusting. Vile. Waste of a perfectly good banana! I couldn’t believe it! I honestly couldn’t believe that they would package this up and pass it as edible?! I even tried to smother it in honey but it was too much of a lost cause.Who in their right mind decided that it was a good idea to sell this?! It’s like a cry for help from our Quaker friends! An attempted suicide of a once great corporation. As my mother would say, I’m not mad. I am just disappointed.
