how is this used in the carbide lamps and is it efficient compared to battery lights ?

Water is added to the calcium carbide which then produces acetylene gas. The acetylene gas is ignited and burns a flame producing light. It works great but is not comparable to using a modern LED type of headlamp or flashlight which run efficiently without an open flame.

can this item be used in carbide cannons ?

In theory, sure. Calicium carbide, when mixed with water creates acetylene gas. This stuff comes in small gravel sized chunks so you may need to refine it a little with a mortar and pestle. I know they used to sell the cannon stuff in a paste of some sort, but I am unsure of the exact compound.

Are ther any residual chemicals are left in the pineapple fruit?

it has been said if you drop a small piece of carbide into the top of a pineapple plant it will start the flower and eventually the pineapple to grow I've tried it and i will say it works most of the time if not all of the time. I have 60 some plants and if they are slow I seed them. you must be careful to have dry hands. sometimes if there is water in the top you will see a reaction to the carbide and that seems to start the growing process
