Good to have on your face

I recently had to start monitoring my blood glucose level and I selected the OneTouch Ultra2 meter. As part of the measurement routine, you are supposed to periodically verify that the meter is within the measurement tolerance. That's the job of this control solution. Instead of analyzing a drop of blood, this solution is applied to the test strip and the reading should fall within a pre-determined range as printed on the bottle containing the test strips. My current batch of strips says the control range is "120 to 160 mg/dl" and the meter read 127. I don't think I'll ever use up all two vials of this control solution before the expiration date (12/2013); one would have been more than enough.

I used the OneTouch Ultra control solution to test two OneTouch Ultra 2's (I have two, since I've been in denial about this diabetes crap… so one was sent to my by my primary care physician and another was prescribed about a year later by an endocrinologist). As far as reproducibility, one machine measured 134 mg/dL and the other measured 135 mg/dL (I think those are the units). I then repeated the test on one machine four times, and round off the results to 136 ± 2 mg/dL. Not bad reproducibility.I have several modest critiques, nonetheless:1. The bottle containing the solution is too hard to squeeze.2. I could not find the actual concentration of the control solution anywhere on the bottle. Or at least some number to indicate what the anticipated results should be in big bold numbers: Eg "135 (bold, 24 point font)"3. This solution doesn't behave like blood… it doesn't show the same propensity to wick as blood into the test strip chamber (different capillary action).4. It comes in only one bottle without any diluents, so we cannot test the response linearity of our meters. I'd like to know that my machine can do 0-to-500 mg/dL in a linear manner.5. Because of the poor wicking, I kept getting a small drop of solution either on top or below the test strip (maybe I'm too klutzy, but still, there should be some thought that maybe some patients will be klutzy)Anyway, it's the only thing going, so I guess it's valuable. But if you have your own glucose, 0.85% saline, and maybe serum protein (or skim milk powder), preservative, an analytical balance, and small cylinder (none of which most people possess at home, at least), you may be better making your own standards. I'm thinking I'll try that myself…LOL

The media could not be loaded. Taking into account. account that this product it has a lot to do with health. I think. Than carelessness. Or the bad intention of getting rid of of. About to expire. It leaves much to be desired. Of this company thats it’s dedicated to selling this tupé of supplies. It’s a shame for so little money. Risk the health of your costomers!!!!!!!

I purchased this to test my mother's One Touch meter after she moved and had to change pharmacies. Initially, due to AMD, she had trouble adjusting to a new system and was worried that the meter wasn't accurate. But then as she 'acclimatized' to the new meter she came to trust it more and I never had to test it. So I haven't used it yet, but I think it's great to have such a way to test an important life support system.

I really like this test solution. It is easy to use with my calibration meter. The only issue I have with this product, is you must buy two units. I believe the second unit of testing solution will hit its expiration date before I get a chance to use it.

It does the job a control solution should do.
