Plantmates 76300 25-Capacity Broadcast Spreader With Canvas Bag

This design is old school but works great. It is just like my fathers and grandfathers except it uses some very shock resistant plastic on some parts and the bag is not just cotton, but a durable mix of materials. seeds very evenly and is much more precise that a push broadcast spreader. Unlike a push type, you can stand still and keep seeding in areas that need heaver seeding. the flow control can be easily bypassed for heavy spot seeding. Is good for all grass seeds including Bermuda seed. I usually mix Bermuda with winter rye seed for even distrubition... the rye will burn up in the summer heat but gives the bermuda shade and a better chance to germinate. Will hold 25 pounds of seed!

Very good quality. Bought it as we had used our friends. Perfect for spreading 25 pounds of grass seed.

This is my husband's 2nd one. The 1st lasted many years until the bag dry rotted. He likes the ease of use, metal gears and it just hangs up when not in use. He uses it putting out grass seed or lawn fertilizer.

The gear mechanism breaks after running 100 lbs of seed through it. It works ok for small grass seed and clover. Does not work for large seeds like oats/switchgrass/big bluestem/etc; the chute gets plugged. Would not recommend if you are planting a substantial amount of area/pasture. For household residential use/planting a single lawn it would be ok. Not that many of these types of broadcasters available so I gave it a try because it was relatively cheap. Would not buy again.

I bought this spreader because of the metal gears. I had one like it only with a wooden base 30 years ago and it worked great. This one worked for about 5 minutes and the the gears started vibrating and it became hard to crank. I tried to adjust the gears and even oiled them (I know seed will stick to to the oil) to no avail. I can only do a small part of my yard before my arm gets tired.Update: I took the spreader apart and added 2 small washers onto the shaft above the spring and the spreader works great now

Exactly what I expected but the narrow shoulder strap is uncomfy if you have a full bag of seeds/fertilizer to spread. Otherwise, nice product for the price.

I am very pleased with the overall looks and apparent quality of the Plant Mate. I can't comment on the performance because I have not had opportunity to try it out.
