Just the book you need to pass your exams
Mister John Laszlo's Book "Clinical Problems in Dentistry" is an excellent and sincere book for several reasons. It is in the first hand a thorough preparation for anyone who would like to pass either the MJDF or MFDS exam, or both. It has been written to answer the questions an examinee will be confronted with and gives full information on how to answer them and pass the exams. The author takes each exam agenda into consideration and discusses cases based on real patients, real problems and real solutions. He therefore merges the exam questions with most valuable, real-life lessons and provides the best preparation to pass the exams. The book contains material that is up to date and has not been covered by any other book yet (i.e. 2013 guidelines of the GDC). It has been written to be a good companion for anybody who would like to improve their knowledge in medical matters in dentistry (and medicine) and is a book I would recommend not only to somebody studying for the MJDF or MFDS exams, but also to a dentist in general practice, to a student in dental school, and to the layperson with an interest in medicine or dentistry. The author has written this book with great knowledge, a kind tone and with an honest care for the reader and the patients. The author writes eloquently, with style and with a natural ease - he has even managed to include some jokes and funny stories which makes it a real fun to read (the author himself is probably one of the funniest dentists in the UK, if not the funniest). You will find this book well-written, informative and so enjoyable that you will catch yourself finding it hard to lay it away - learning with this book will be easy and pleasurable.Mister John Laszlo has both memberships, the MJDF RCS (Engl.) and the MFDS RCS (Ed.). He has written this book in order to support other dentists to pass either one of the exams, or both. He has been working hard in order to compile all the information into one book and share his knowledge and expertise with his colleagues because he believes that when dentists pass their MFDS or MJDF exams and feel confident about their abilities and their chosen profession, this will be positive for them and be benefitting the patients in the long run. This is also the reason why this book, which is a real treasure of knowledge, tips and good advice, is being sold for a ridiculously low price. The structure of the book looks as following:Chapter 1: Exam Expectations, Structure, Themes, Preparation, Domains, How To Cope With A Failure, Homework, Where To Get Information, The Exams in Themselves, Key Elements Of The OSCEs, Consultation, Key Points Of The Exam (i.e. Communication, History Taking, Behaviour, Language, Etc.), Marking Scheme Of The Exams, References.Chapter 2: Medical Emergencies, Discussions, Further Readings, References.Chapter 3: Medical Matters, Discussions, Further Readings and References.Chapter 4: Ethical Examples: Introduction, Hidden Curriculum, Ethics In Exams, GDC Guidelines 2013, References and Cases With Discussion.Chapter 5: Clinical Cases, Discussion, References, Important Points, (The Differences between the MJDF and MFDS Exams).Chapter 6: Procedural Problems, Introduction, Important Development, Cases And Discussion, References. The End: Inspirational Thoughts About Beryl Murray Davis, Index.

A book for all dentists not just examinees.
Mr Laszlo clearly has a wealth of experience and he is keen to impart this to his colleagues. Although the book is primarily for those taking the college membership exams, the spread of problems that he proposes, examines, and gives advice on solving, are material for all dentists. Many of the scenarios could present in general practice and this is a book for the practice library. interspersing the clinical discussions with his own take on the current dental scene adds to the readability and to the readers understanding of the political and legal environment in which problems arise. I recommend this book to young (and older) postgraduate dentists.

Practical book for candidate preparing MFDS Exam
This book gives many hints and examples for the exam, but the layout and presentation can be improved. No photos or any charts in the book which diminishes the readability. But the author himself took the exam and tackled it successfully which give the reader useful information for the preparation.
