A Cool running router
I bought this router because of it's 10 ports (9 after you designate the WAN port), and I wanted to use it as an internal router in my network (to isolate the 'parents' network from the 'kids' network for security reasons).Advice: read the online setup documentation BEFORE you try to set up this router.PROS:10 ports (9 after you allocate the WAN port)Runs very cool, after running it for a week, I can barely feel any heat coming off of it.Easy to update firmware.Easy to set up using the Basic Set up wizard (but more complicated after the wizard)Factor installed firmware is recent and works (unlike other Edgemax Routers I've used)Fast. My network is a bit snappier after installing this router. Web pages load faster.Excellent online resources for managing and setting up Ubiquity Routers.CONS:No quick startup documentation comes with the router. You need to look it up online.Slow to reboot. Takes about 5 minutes.User interface is difficult to use and understand, not as nice as the Ubiquity Unifi interface, not simple like consumer routers, not for a non-techical user.

Home/Small Biz Users, Don't Be Afraid!
I can't comment on longevity or anything like that yet, as I've just set it up. But so far I am VERY pleased.I'm a modern guy living in a modern home, and as such I have many devices and ethernet running to three bedrooms. I had been looking at so-called "gaming" wifi routers - I'm not a gamer - mainly to get eight or more ethernet ports. I also wanted better wifi signal, as my old wifi router wasn't getting signal to distant areas of my house. Instead of a gaming router, I got this and a separate UniFi wifi access point, and couldn't be happier. The Ubiquiti stuff is of course designed more for professional users, and does not come truly "plug and play" for home users. But if you have a basic familiarity with networking terminology, you can find great guidance videos online and get this installed easily. I used the fantastic tutorials posted by "Toasty Answers" on U2ube, and I sure hope that guy gets a commission from Ubiquiti because his assistance was the difference that made me buy the router and access point when I was a bit too nervous to try to go it alone. If you are hesitant like I was, watch the video(s) before you decide, and you will likely see that you can get it set up properly. Again, glad I did, it and the wifi access point are working great, with better speeds and greater range than I had before. Plus, I was able to clean up my cabling mess by getting rid of the separate network switch I had needed to connect all my devices.

A GREAT NEW ROUTER.
2015 to now, zero problems ever. (non VLAN , no VPN usages) just a grate fast router, 800Mbps via optimum cable.always keep the firmware up to date, hot patch 7 is it.the product line has ended, so I bought 3 spare Edge max. ( it runs fast and cool)and I now run on FIBER ISPI love mine. and has no exploits like many do.(vast)never keep the default user name or PW ever,.!The best thing to do for home users that do not understand how TCP/IP works, is to upgrade firmware and click on wizard ICONand click basic setup. and now it becomes a working router and not before.the maker has not a clue as to your end uses. home, business or SOHO. (yes complex this is, on a world scale)it even supports 2 ISP connections WAN at one. ( so it can never fail) mostly used by business.it must be configured to work, it is not PnP plug and play.other home only routers, are PNP. (can be)<< consumer grade is is called.A new router is one of the most complex things to setup if no experience here. I do hope this helps.the older versions have no wizard for basics so do upgrade the firmware first. then click wizard.no router made that I have seen has or had better documentation, PDF and on line and is Hugely extensive.I run a bunch of netgear switches in the attic to connect every room to wired GIGA LAN ports. (wall jacks)and 2 AP , Unifi AP , that never ever fail.love mine, I do.happy trails to all
