Robin Hood

This splendid film is a true classic, full of charm, humor, and heart. Its weaknesses are very small, and they are the dated musical instruments on just a couple of sequences. Despite that, it soars thanks to a magnificent performance by Peter Ustinov as Prince John, aided by Terry Thomas as Sir Hiss. The themes about taxation, poverty, and suffering are clear and intentional in this 'kids' story. I think looking on the surface and dismissing it is a mistake. The casting is perfect, with vocal nuances abounding. I wish there was a sequel, but please Disney: don't remake this into live action. Let it be. Some things are perfect as they are.

Great disney movie for years ago. Grandkids love it

Robin Hood is one hour and twenty-three minutes and was released in theaters on November 8, 1973. Basically it is the same story in live action films with the exception it is animated and uses animals instead of people. The story is simple; Robin Hood robs from the rich and gives to the poor, rescues Maid Marian from the evil clutches of Prince John, and rescues Friar Tuck from hanging and returns the stolen money to the poor people of Nottingham. Each character is protrayed by an animal. My biggest argument that not all the animals protrayed in the film hail from the forrest. Prince John is a thin lion, Sir Hiss is a snake, Robin Hood is a fox, Maid Marian is a vixen, Little John is a bear, Sheriff of Nottingham is a wolf, and Friar Tuck is an American badger. I am sure someone else wrote a more detailed version of the story. My comments will be on the making of the movie. The movie had a very small budget to begin and a lot of a lot of the scenes were reused from other movies. A good example is the dance scene with Lady Cluck and Little John. It mirrors the dance sequence from the Jungle Book where King Louie and Baloo dance to the song I Wanna Be Like You. Even the vultures in this movie were identical to the ones in the Jungle Book. Also the voice of Little John is identical to that of Baloo; even though Phil Harris provide both of the voices. Since the movie is set in England six of the actors are from England: Peter Ustinov as Prince John, Terry-Thomas as Sir Hiss, Brian Bedford as Robin Hood, Monica Evans as Maid Marian, Carole Shelley as Lady Kluck, and J. Pat O'Malley as Otto the dog. Another thing with this movie is the ongoing goof of Skippy's hat, the one giving to him by Robin Hood on his birthday, it starts off as a pale yellow and switches to green and back at yellow again. In 1974 Robin Hood was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song for the song Love, but lost to The Way We Were to the film with the same title. Old movie good tale

As usual for Disney movies with animals, this is targeted VERY hard toward young children, but it will be a masterpiece for them! The story of Robin Hood in general has captivated countless people over the generations. As it says in the intro, "there've been a heap of tall tales about Robin Hood, all different, too." This one is the "animal kingdom" version, with pretty much every character as a different animal (except the obvious romantic couple of Robin Hood & Maid Marian). The Jungle Book's influence is really clear, as well. Little John is pretty much a carbon copy of Baloo, Hiss is Kaa, and even some of the animation is taken straight out of there. As you would expect for a children's film, the "good guy" is incredibly perfect, and the villain is such a ridiculous caricature. Little John even has a thumb-sucking habit shown right at the start, immediately setting the pace for the rest of the movie. Of course, there's even a kid sidekick. Granted, as you can see with Prince John sucking his thumb, there are some cringe-worthy moments that would immediately make anyone at least in their teens turn it off. However, young kids will find plenty to love here. Parents watching with their kids will find a surprising amount of depth & darkness in here, too. For example, there are actual gallows & many explicit references to hanging executions. This was, after all, a point when a G rating could still allow realistically awful things, such as with the "Land Before Time" & "the Fox and the Hound." If you want an animal adventure for your kids, this is pretty much the ancestor to Zootopia, just centered on societal classes rather than racism. I'd probably be more comfortable introducing this over Zootopia the younger the child is, but it's still a great introduction to the concept of Robin Hood. I'd definitely pick this to introduce that world over Robin Hood: Men in Tights (though that's a fine movie in its own right).

Love this movie! A childhood favorite and I watch it often. Super cute and funny as well.

Robin, Little John, Lady Marian e l’irresistibile Principe Giovanni formano un cast di personaggi indimenticabili, ognuno con una comicità e un fascino unici. Il DVD è ben realizzato: Qualità video buona, con colori vivi e animazioni fluide nonostante l’età del film. Audio chiaro e pulito, perfetto per godersi le canzoni iconiche. Contenuti extra essenziali ma piacevoli per conoscere alcuni retroscena. Un acquisto consigliatissimo per chi ama i classici Disney o per chi vuole aggiungere alla propria collezione una storia divertente, leggera e piena di cuore. Ideale per tutta la famiglia.
