2012 Mac Mini 2.6 GHz/16GB RAM OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 Results
2012 Mac Mini 2.6 GHz/16GB RAM Mavericks 10.9.1: Startech's drivers from their website do not work at all for me as of Feb 18 2014 (I have the USB to DVI + USB port model). I did an uninstall first, then reinstalled. Still nothing. Restarting many times did nothing. Unplugging the USB video card while fresh installing did nothing. I've tried every permutation of scenarios.I then tried a driver from Magic Control Technology Corp (link is at end of the review) that another reviewer (Kevin Mentch) said worked on an older OS X 10.8.4. It is a driver from 2012 which last worked on OS X Mountain Lion. Here is my experience with that driver running in OS X 19.1.1: Short story is that it is useable, but not any better than buying a cheaper USB 2.0 video driver for half the price. The driver works on my 27" Apple 1920x1200 display. However, when I scroll any window on the monitor attached to this USB video card, the bottom third of my 27" 1920x1200 Apple DVI display shows flickers of scrambled up screen, for split seconds during movement. Sometimes it's the whole screen. It's super annoying. Basically when there's any on screen movement, whether a screensaver or simple web browser, or text document, the display flickers. I'm also running two other identical 27" 1920x1200 displays on the Thunderbolt & HDMI ports along with this USB adapter. They run fine regardless of the USB video card problems.Huge warning: I just messed up the USB card by switching resolution from 1920x1200 to a lower one. I only have vertical lines on the screen and can't see anything at all on the desktop, even after uninstalling and reinstalling the driver still brings up the lines. I figured out how to get back to the 1920x1200 resolution even with the USB powered screen completely unreadable: In the other monitors, go to the System Prefs ->Displays and hit in the bottom right of the control panel "Gather Windows" and voila - all three displays preferences show up on the one display you're working on. I switched resolutions on the USB screen. Unfortunately, though the screen is now visible through the USB adapter, but there are ghosts of the previous bands on the screen which faded away after 10 minutes. This Adapter is being returned, until the Mavericks issues are fixed on Apple's end (That's where all the tech support articles say the problem lies). The link of the alternate (old) drivers: "It is made by a company called Magic Control Technology Corp, and you can find the drivers needed here: [...]and the direct link to the zip download here: [...]

Follow the instructions exactly and it works
DON'T PLUG IT IN!1. First download the software from the web site on the package, install the software. It takes a while to install. Do not plug the device in when you install.2. Reboot your system, even if it doesn't ask you to. Do not plug in the device. Wait for your system to come up fully.3. NOW plug in the device. More software will install. It works fine and I've had no software issues or reboots on windows 7.I previously installed the Anker® Uspeed Superspeed USB 3.0 PCI-E Express Card with 4 USB 3.0 Ports and 5V 4-Pin Power Connector for Desktops [one step to upgrade your PC to USB3.0 ], and have plugged this device into one of the USB 3.0 ports from that card. Note that it comes with all power connectors, you don't need a separate connector. It was just as effortless, but you do need to open your computer. Best approach is to order that card first, after that's installed, order this one. That will give you the maximum time to make sure this one is working without the USB card install eating it's way to your return period for this product. The only downside is that the software to adjust the color and such is nonexistent. Your monitor is the only way to adjust. Probably not recommended for high end graphics work unless there is some other program that will work with this card to adjust it.

It functions but is slow and disables my HDMI port
I bought this about a month ago and have been through a few rounds with StarTech support getting it to work. Here are the two main points:1) It does not function on my USB 3.0 port but does on the USB 2.0 ports. Thus I cannot get the speed it is designed for. This lack of speed is obvious and it seems clear you would need it functioning on USB 3.0 ports to get quality video on the connected monitor. StarTech support recommended I apply all Windows updates (I did), update the USB 3.0 controller from Device Manager (I did but none were available), or update the BIOS on my computer (not something I want to get into; unsure if it would have worked). So I have to live with using it on the USB 2.0 port.2) My computer has an HDMI output for a monitor. When I got the StarTech adapter I was hoping to have two external monitors. It turns out the StarTech adapter, while functional, disables my HDMI port. It's one or the other, not both. This negates the usefulness of the adapter for me. StarTech support apologized and said it is up to each computer if this will happen. I have no reason to confirm or refute that claim. To me, it doesn't work and I have given it plenty of time and effort. It is now going in the trash bin.In conclusion, the good news is that it does function. The bad news is that it doesn't work on my USB 3.0 drive and it disables other external monitors.

Worth the money
Good product. Just got it yesterday. Followed the install instructions prior to plugging in the device and worked like a charm.Pros: Easy install. Just dropped in the installation CD, restarted my PC, plugged in the device, and boom! Instant second screen for my HP PC or main screen (Phillips HD) if i feel like watching videos.Cons: Some videos seemed like they froze so audio and video didn't always match, but I didn't play with any settings yet.Overall: Worth the money and glad I didn't go cheap on this. Will probably give another star once I figure out the proper settings so that videos play smoothly.

I used this to add a third monitor to my ...
I used this to add a third monitor to my laptop. The laptop itself was capable of using it's own internal monitor, plus one external, so now I have three. It's incredible.I only gave it four stars because every once in a while, maybe once a month, the monitor on this port quits. Usually unplugging the USB connection and reconnecting it solves the problem. I don't know if that is a driver issue, a hardware issue or a Windows 10 issue. The occasional minor hassle is worth it to have the third monitor 99.99% of the time.

Not that happy with it
Use with USB 3.0 and i'm not that happpy. I want everything to be really fluid when i use my computer i it tend to be a littlebit disrupted sometimes using this device. I tried it with 2 different computers. If I hadn't had the box thrown away when unpacking it I would had sent it back.

Ben funzionante!!

CONSIGLIATO
