A versatile, excellent dematting tool for cats.
I have a domestic long hair kitty who has been getting matted, especially during the winter, and the combs that I use just could not get through the mats; meanwhile, they continued to get larger. My husband even held her as I did my best to cut out some of the mats with scissors, which made for one stressed-out cat, along with her owners! I looked online and saw these dematting tools - some people call them "rakes" - for cats and dogs, and the reviews were mostly positive. I bought one at our local pet store, but the teeth on it were spaced like the finer side on this rake, and it was smaller. Unfortunately, that rake still pulled uncomfortably at her fur, and Mocha was hating the grooming. This BarkOutfitters rake has two sides, and I thought perhaps the widely-spaced side would make for a more comfortable combing, and perhaps cut through the mats a little better. When I first used it, I found that it was easier to rake through her fur, though the mats still seemed to pose a problem. I asked my husband to hold Mocha, and I went to work on two of the smaller mats. I found that I could get under them with the wide teeth, and held onto her skin so it wouldn't pull and hurt her, and the rake started to CUT THROUGH the mats! I had to adjust it to only go through part of the mat at a time, but it did a great job of cutting it into smaller pieces. I quickly went to a matted pad on her side that was almost 3" in diameter and about 1/4-1/2" thick and started trying to get under it around the edges, and that worked a little, but then I raked over the 3" surface of it and kept raking and raking, and her fur kept untangling and untangling, but by this time Mocha had about had it, so we released her. Mocha's fur is so long, that to look at her one would never know she has mats, but when I pet her is when I can determine where the mats are. The smaller ones are completely gone now, and I feel as though the matted pad of fur on her side is getting smaller and thinner, though I probably need my husband's help again for a more thorough session to completely rake through it. So, to conclude, I think this is a fabulous product! I love how wide it is, but I especially love the side of the rake with the widely-spaced teeth. I believe this makes for a more comfortable grooming experience for a matted cat, and I would imagine for any other animal, too. The comb is comfortable to hold, and the cutting blades are safe within the curve of the rake ends, so they cut only the hair that goes through it and nothing else. I would suggest that the name of this product be changed to include cats, because I have had some amazing success in using it on my kitty. Thank you for an excellent product!

Extremely Happy with this Product!
I have a husky/chow mix dog with, I don't know how many, undercoats and a top layer of long, fine fur that gets tangled and matted easily. I got out the summer kiddie pool (which he dearly loves) early this year due to early warm weather but had not clipped him short yet...then the rain started...and went on for 2 to 3 weeks. Needless to say, Buddy was a mess. He is a rescue dog who, even after 6 years, is afraid of new people and is terrified of the groomers. Since they won't let me stand in the same room and reassure him and then are angry at him by the time they are done, I take care of him myself. I went online to Amazon.com to see of there was a product to help me and not hurt him in the process. This dematting tool is amazing!!! I will recommend it to everyone I know! It took only a couple of hours with this tool to completely demat my very matted and tangled dog without cutting him or causing him stress. I have tried many different tools over the years, with not a lot of success, so was skeptical. I figured I would waste my money yet again and still have to get the scissors out. This time, the scissors were just to trim his beautiful coat! I don't write many reviews but I do look at what other people have to say before I buy so I thought I would return the favor. This is an excellent product!

It Works, But Hurts my Girl a Bit
I like the idea of the dematting tool. My shorkie gas long straight hair which gets especially matted during the winter, wearing sweaters. The tool seems to hurt her when snagging on the tough snarls. We had to break between combing the right and left sides, although I was astounded at how much matted hair came off ger with the tool. I wish it didn't pull on her so hard to hurt her, try as I do to be gentle, yet productive.

Works, but it's not the greatest.
This dematting comb does work, but to a point. Whenever I use it on my pet, they kinda freak out a bit. I do not tug or roughly pull while combing so this can't be the reason why. I do small diligent strokes and they still don't like the sensation of the comb. But like I said, it does work on getting rid of the excess hair fairly significantly, I'm just afraid I'm hurting my pet while using it. The difference on both sides is noticeable while using the comb. I feel as though the side with more space is great for thicker mats while the thinner side is great for breaking up smaller mats. Just be mindful on the pressure, speed and angle of which you are using the comb. My pet still has mats in their fur so it's not a cure all for them, but it works great on getting that hair that's ready to be shed. The grip of the handle is nice, the thumb area is useful. This is my first dematting comb I've ever purchased, I'd be inclined to try another one if I hadn't purchased this one.

Shi-tzu fur - not a problem. Works great
I just received the tool and i love it! I have 2 shi zhu dogs that their hair is kept on the longer side but they love running outside on our farm and get into stickers and hayfields. This is working perfect to get everything out of their fur. It does tug a little at times but is doing a terrific job getting the matted hair undone along with the sickers. Thanks for a great tool!
