My cat loves this!
The assembly instruction was very straightforward and easy to follow. I was able to put this together in a night, 2 people is ideal for the job. The one thing that would make this better for me is if the upper door in adjustable in term of height. My window I a bit higher than regular so it didn’t exactly match the upper door. I had to prop it up on an old coffee table to get it to match the window. I’m still giving it 5 starts because for regular home. This will bee perfect. I use a form board (from Home Depot) and attach a little cat door (can be fine on Amazon) to it to create an insulated door that my cat can free my come in and out.

Good overall, but a bit flimsy.
They love it so far. Wish the shelves were a bit thicker since my cats are absolute units. But, overall very happy.

Exceptional value for the money
Let's start with the WOOD....it's incredibly lightweight and the instruction manual states it's "FIR". Other reviewers state it's "painted", well, that depends on what one calls "painted". Yes, all the pieces have been coated but the process is called "washed", not painted. For those who aren't familiar with "washed", it's a quick coating of water and paint to give the piece the paint color but not the paint coverage and protection. It's a quick technique appropriate for certain situations. I clear coat sealed each piece, with water seal, before assembling the unit. I don't plan to leave outside in wet weather, I'm positive it wouldn't last long getting wet and being subject to wet of any kind. I also have a tarp ready should a storm pop up unexpected. ASSEMBLY. Instructions recommend 2 people and admittedly, some steps would have been easier with another set of hands, however, it IS possible to assemble it by yourself. I'm a 65 y.o. retired female contractor, with obvious muscle loss due to age but handling the pieces was super easy. The pre-drilled holes match up nicely, the pieces are lettered/numbered clearly, minimal tools required and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. It's a great little "hut" for your felines. It's substantial for cats but I don't suggest putting your weight on the bottom floor of the unit. The included wheels roll nicely. I've moved it all around my concrete and up the 1" ledge into my garage without any issues. One of the shelves, the one at the bottom of the top door opening, does not show being screwed down, just lays loose on bracing....I did not like that thinking a jump from the platform above may cause the edge to go down, which would cause the other side to fly up, leave the bracing, causing the cat to flip and land in the bottom, so I screwed each side at an angle, into the outer framing. ROOF... the roof is a tad bit heavy but manageable and covered with a tar-like overlay. It looks to be water repellant because of the tar covering, however, the wood around is the same light weight, washed Fir, that won't withstand the wet elements for any length of time. I wanted my cat to be able to access the catio from a window but the cute little lift up doors didn't match up to any windows, so I had to improvise, modify the top front door, with an opening that would line up with my desired window. I cut scrap I had to assemble 2 identical, mitered frames. I removed the door so I could lay it flat and stapled the wire mesh to the outside mitered frame. I then screwed the other frame to the stapled frame. Next, I snipped out the wire mesh...VIOLA....an opening. I installed a hinged door to the frame so I could close up the hole if I wanted to roll the unit to another location, with my cat inside. I also added corner bracing for another platform and did not screw on the back of the included shelter box so my cat could see out both ends, right out the window hole exit. Overall, I'm pleased with this catio. I certainly could not have built it for what it cost. It does seem flimsy early on during the assembly however, sturdies up as more pieces are added. Not sure how long it would last being exposed to wet weather, so I'll be rolling it into the garage to hopefully extend the life of the unit. It's a really good deal, even with the shipping cost. My cat climbs the wired sides, doesn't understand why he's confined, being able to see and hear everything so clearly but can't get thru that wire barrier. He does enjoy watching the bird action going in and out of the bird house right beside his "hut". I do think he likes his new enclosure much better than watching from inside the house.

Does the job at a reasonable price
Not too hard to put together. Construction is solid. All the parts work well enough, and the design works good for my cat. I like that fact that it can be easily relocated on the wheels.

Solo builder
I love it so does Lucian, yea easy to put together by myself - took longer than 45 minutes to get the thing out of its packing ! But there it was followed the instructions until the last shelf then no instructions but was able to figure it out. All done in one day solo builder. Worth 5 stars

Cheap and flimsy but serves the purpose
It’s good if you’re separate for a catio and don’t mind it being flimsy and hard to build. You also can’t bring it inside because it doesn’t fit through doors so you have to build it outside

My feral cats get tame in this penthouse
I live on my ranch in Texas (more of a petting zoo than a ranch though) and somehow word has got out to feral cats that if they come to my place, they will have a nice bed, really decent food, clean water and access to my DISH TV. I get the stray cats spayed or neutered, vaccinated and tamed down thanks to this cage. It takes about a week in the cage on my shaded back porch (heated garage during winter) and during that “basic training” period they watch and hear all the sights and sounds we have here, getting accustomed to all the moving objects and after a week, I pull them out of the cage and get them used to being held by a human being. The cage, having multiple levels, and a “private apartment” affords the cats some exercise, privacy and a nice view of the outdoors. The only “negative” about this cage is the complicated assembly and lousy instructions, but if you keep at it and have a helper you can get this all put together in about 45 minutes.I’m glad I bought this and so are the hobo cats that show up on my place.

Works with our window sill that's 28" high
The smell from the wood is strong initially but subsides after a day if sitting outside. We had a table and saw horses to set things on as we painted and put things together which really saved our backs. We used a nice gray primer/paint and brushes to add one layer. It took 5.5 hours for the two of us to hand paint one layer. If you use black or dark gray paint, it might blend in with the wire. Spray paint might be easier and faster. Consider writing the part name on a piece of tape and sticking it to the wire, or paint around the part name.Putting it together with two people and a power drill/driver took about 1.5 hours. Some holes are pre drilled, others are not, so we predrilled holes when needed. We had minimal wood splitting overall with this method.Consider how you are going to connect this to your house and whether there will be a gap or a height difference. I purchased a window pet flap and we created a small wooden tunnel to fill the 6-7" gap between the windowsill and catio door. We also used three hook latches to keep it from moving away from the window accidentally.Overall, it looks really good. I might try to find ways of minimizing rain on the catio like someone else did (by adding shower curtains around the wires) but haven't decided.
