Healing within Days
Even after having taken solid and chelated iron pills for months, I still had critical iron numbers, so I purchased this and take it along with NovaFerrum (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C2DHB5K/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00C2DHB5K&linkCode=as2&tag=4abettelife&linkId=e970a80e16597ccf8494c852f2aa5800 ) I take it on an empty stomach, at least an hour before a meal. I chase it with 12 ounces of orange juice (details below). I am careful to take it separate from calcium, or magnesium, or zinc - I understand these can interfere with iron absorption. If I take my multi-vitamins in the morning, I do the iron at night, or vice versa. Within DAYS I could tell my iron levels were improving. I could breathe more easily, my energy levels were much much higher, and I could do triple the exercises I did days before. I love this product. I do chase it with a glass of orange juice, because iron absorbs better when taken with vitamin C, and because it prevents nausea. The first day I took it, I didn't take it with enough liquid and within 20 minutes I was very nauseous. But it was bearable, only lasted 40 minutes, then went away completely. Once I started chasing it with 8-12 ounces orange juice, I've had much less nausea. For maximum absorption, I also take vitamin c to ensure enough Vit C for max iron absorption. I do intend to update my post when I have my newest blood test numbers to show the before-and-after, but I need 3 months for that. I bought a second bottle, will purchase again. Highly, Highly Recommended.

good ferritin supplement with little to no "side effects"
I started taking this supplement at the recommendation of my doctor when it was discovered my Ferritin levels were ~12 when they should be around 60. Ferritin is iron protein in blood not to be confused with simple Iron (it takes a different test to determine ferritin levels and might be missed with basic iron screening). I'm a female athlete and low ferritin is a common issue among women athletes, particularly runners. I've noticed an increase in energy and overall well being on this supplement and my blood work is up to 30 in about 6 months. I haven't experienced much (if any) of the well-know constipation issues many iron supplements cause.

Only iron supplement that works for me
I've tried most of the different iron supplement variations available at the Vitaminshoppe (and here on Amazon). This is the only one that does not cause undesirable side effects for me. I think the only thing that bothers me about this supplement is that Cardiovascular Research appears to be the only company in the US that produces and sells an actual ferritin supplement. I find this very strange because I cannot think of another supplement where this is the case. This was a red flag for me, because an iron supplement that doesn't cause constipation and raises blood serum ferritin levels is a big deal (it's like having a better mousetrap), so you would think all the big supplement companies would get in. There are so many companies out there and they are very aggressive about jumping into new and popular lines of supplements. But not this one. Why? I have no clue and I'm still trying to figure it out. Where are the big mainstream supplement companies? Solaray, Solgar, Vitaminshoppe, Source Naturals, Natrol, Twins Lab, the list goes on and on. So this is a big red flag for me. But I was desperate so I tried it anyways and IT DOES WORK. It raised my blood ferritin levels and also my blood serum iron , TIBC, and UIBC levels. With no side effects. So until I discover a compelling reason to stop taking these supplements, I think they are great.

Doctors still don't know everything...
I got this after perusing labs on my wife - not only was she showing low iron levels (leading to both anaemia and metabolic dysfunction,) but low ferritin levels as well. Ferritin is the protein that transports iron throughout the body. It is entirely possible to be considered anaemic with nominal iron counts, if your ferritin is low (and nominal iron/low ferritin can also cause metabolic issues that may be difficult to otherwise diagnose.) I'm not saying that you should take this blind - nor should you just jump right in and play with your body chemistry without some guidance (lab results/conversations with doctors) and/or research (/starting/ with Wiki is okeh, but it's not a comprehensive source. Mayo Clinic, NIH, JAMA - /those/ are the places where you should dig for gold!) But, if you find that increasing ferritin is indicated, then this can help you. If you are low in both iron and ferritin, you may need to take both - but definitely take the iron under competent guidance (overdoing iron can cause hemochromatosis, which has plenty of complications. The body tends to purge iron VERY slowly; and elevated serum iron can cause failure of various organs - heart, liver, kidneys, pituitary; and testicles in men. And that's probably not all, I'm not referring to my notes on this one.) I'm not an M.D. - just someone who's learned a lot. Take this with a grain of salt, and do PLEASE consult a physician if you're even a little bit unsure of something, before you play with your body chemistry! It's too easy to screw things up in a big way!
