It helps to check the ammonia to the tank but I need one that I check the nitrates and nitrites that a very serious problem in the aquarium.

I purchased this paper to monitor the ammonia level in a barn where I board my horse. There has been a silent battle among boarders to open/close barn doors during cold weather. Professionals recommend that doors remain open to allow ammonia fumes to escape quickly. After monitoring the ammonia levels with the doors closed, I decided to prop my horse's window open to reduce the high ammonia readings. He was showing signs of upper respiratory distress with a runny nose and sneezing during moderate exercise. Hopefully, with the window open, this distress will subside. The paper is simple to use. Just dip a small strip in distilled water, shake excess water, then hold paper in area you want to monitor for 15-20 seconds. Once the paper dries, it changes back to its original color. I received this test paper roll in less than 15 hrs. I was able to test the air in my parents' house. It is an objective test that the results were undeniable, not just me telling my mother that the air stinks! It's easy to use, quick and simple.

Distilled water? 2 drops? Shake off the rest? Did that. No results. No ammonia? Not the case, unfortunately. Did the same test an INCH above the cat box, also came up 0. Took water from my aquarium that's going through it's nitrogen cycle where I KNOW the current ppm is 25 (no fish in it right now, it's cycling), and it came up zero. I even got a dropper full of cat urine direct from the litter box and used THAT as a test and it still showed zero. Cat urine has ammonia in it even before the ammonia gasses out. There's no way that should have been zero. I'd like to think that it's working and my house has no ammonia anywhere and my cats are magic, but that's not how science works.
