One of the Top 5 Computer Purchases I've Ever Made.
I, at least, remember when 20MB drives cost five times as much (well, if it comes to that, I remember the days before 20MB drives for personal computers!)Now we have access to a 2 *million* megabyte drive for (gasp) *less than $100*. If you need to be convinced of the value of such a thing, you are (no offense meant), a *loony*.All seriousness aside: Western Digital is arguably the premier disk drive maker in the world. Their drives are incredibly reliable; I've had two of their larger drives for over 5 years now without a single problem. The My Passport series is robust, fast, trouble-free, and overall an incredible value for the money. The available space is ridiculously large. The most "hard drive" space you can get in a Mac is 1 TB, which means that you can back up approximately *2 Macs* onto this one drive. Considering that you're probably not using most of your computer's hard drive space, and you wouldn't back up all of it anyway, this drive is an excellent (and portable backup solution). In closing, I can confirm that this drive works seamlessly with Time Machine (for backups) and Lightroom (for managing photos).

Using these to provide a NAS to my home network - good drives!
I love these drives. I have two of them which I am using to provide a mirrored NAS to my stacks of Raspberry Pi computers. So far they're working flawlessly in this capacity. They are providing home and log directories to my collection of Raspberry Pi. Response is quick and the data transfer rates are acceptable. My only complaint is that they take a bit of time to wake on access, so they aren't available to fsck and mount on boot, but this is more of an issue because of the way I'm using the drives. I have mirroring set up because I've killed more than my share of external drives by using them in always-on configurations; I want to keep my data around even if I lose one of the drives. The cases are aesthetically pleasing to look at. It is certainly pleasant to have something other than black and silver in my computer area. The cases feel good when handling them; they have a pleasant tactile presence. They are glossy, but not slippery which would cause a risk of dropping them. If you're going to cart yours around, I would recommend both the edge protector kit, which isn't too expensive, and a good case to avoid shock-damaging the drive or scratching that nice enclosure.

Perfect small 2TB Portable External USB 3.0 Disk Drive
Perfect small 2TB Portable External USB 3.0 Disk Drive. Great price and performance in a very small package. I use it as an interim storage device when I'm travelling. I use the motel "business office" PCs in the evenings to quickly download 4K video that I captured during the day on a DJI Phantom 3 Pro Drone on several 64GB Micro SD Cards to the My Passport 2TB Drive until I get home and move the video to permanent storage. Then I erase the 64GB Micro SD Cards and I'm ready to go the following morning. The My Passport Ultra 2TB drive is fast and very compact, and its 3.0 USB capability make it a perfect travelling companion. Perfect solution for my use.

Works perfectly. Runs cool and quiet.
I use this WD external HDD for drag and drop back up of data files (mostly photos). The data transfer rate is very fast. Not a hiccup so far. Very quiet, Runs cool. Very compact. Fits in a shirt pocket. I bought a protective storage case which makes me feel a lot better leaving this unit lying around or transporting it somewhere. Highly recommend!

WD 2 TB Drive - Good Enough!!
I just received my Western Digital (WD) Passport Ultra, 2 TB; delivery in 2 days. First, let me mention that prior to purchase I posted a question here at Amazon as to whether the drive comes with the little zipper case. I got one reply that said yes, it does not! Now, let me be honest, when you follow the purchase options in Amazon, when I saw that there was a suggestion to purchase a case for $5, well, that was my clue, so really, I knew the answer but I thought I would ask. So two thoughts, hey folks, don't answer questions you don't know the answer to! Next, I think the fact that it doesn't ship with a case is the fault of Western Digital. Tacky tacky tacky. I always thought it was classy when the drive arrived with the case. So if you read more, you will see, I have a case I can use.I have been buying these WD drives for years (and I used to be a big Seagate fan) I have about six of them and every single drive came with a zipper case! Why six (over time....)? I buy them in pairs, off-site / on-site backup rotation. The first pair I bought were 160 GB, I thought I was in heaven, a thousand times better than any other backup media I had ever used before and, they are all still fully functional today. I have never had any of these WD USB external drives fail. Drives fail, I've had lots of drive failures over the years, but these have not. So, I have 160 GB, 320 GB, 1 TB and now 2 TB.Since I already have the WD software installed, it was plug and play, but the software install is a breeze, and works well. As a result of several OS upgrades, I have installed the WD software many times.Today, Costco has some Seagate drives that appear very similar to these WD drives, BIG difference. The Seagate drives don't have encryption and password protection (not 100% sure but…) so both my history of years using these WD drives and the encryption / password protection, and a pretty good price point, a good deal. One more thing, fast drives, these are not. I have a utility that measures the speed, even this brand new drive, 2 TB drive, 5200 rpm, boring. But that's why they're so inexpensive, if they were 10,000 rpm, they would cost a lot more.
