The bill is not as stiff as I would have liked. The strap is removable if you like trying to untie the knots and I'm sure it would disappear quickly when removed also it is locked with some kind of slide thing and I prefer barrel locks. Guess I'll see how bad the bill flops around when I get in some wind. I will use it primarily on a sailboat.11/8 update: Wore it on a walk in 15 to 20 MPH breeze and the bill didn't flop up and down every time I moved my head so I will quit worrying about that. Still don't care for the chinstrap so have replaced it with heavier a shoestring and barrel lock. I put tight knots that hopefully will not come undone on it. If I need it out of the way I'll put it up in the hat and then put it on. I do wish the sizing would have been clearer. My head measures 23 1/4 inches around and the large feels OK. I am probably right in between a M and L. If I need it tighter I will just wear a doo-rag under it, the adjustment in the rear didn't seem to make a lot of difference

Just what I was looking for
A great hat for sailing in and doing everything else. It's adjustable and lightweight. Most importantly for me the brim doesn't flop down. A strong gust can turn the brim up but with the chin strap is not going anywhere. The dark underside absorbs light and reduces glare. I was looking for a slightly narrower brim but this works great.

Gil hat is the best
This is the best hat,Can swim with it, use on the boat,Roll up in your pocket, throw it in the washing machine to wash off sunscreen and sweat, I own two of them and live in tropics and wear all the time, clean and lightweight,buy this hat, you will like it

A little too floppy
It's a great hat. It provides protection from the sun, breathes well so it doesn't make your head hot when you wear it. The floppy brim looks silly sometimes. It would be improved by a stiffer brim. Also, it looks a little like a chef's hat when you can see that the top of the hat seems wider than where it goes around your head.

Not great in a breeze
Ok hat but the brim is too floppy in a breeze so not very good at sun protection.

Very nice, comfortable and well made hat
Very nice, comfortable and well made hat...I like it more than the Tilly hat, which is a lot more expensive.
