NEW AGE Turmeric Curcumin Capsules - Standardized Curcuminoids - Non-GMO, Gluten Free 180 Count (Pack of 2)

We have a couple "new age" hippie friends who are all into the "organic this," the "nature's that," and all of that other holistic, natural remedy, voodoo, weirdo, medicinal herbal stuff that only they and chiropractors believe in. They told us all about the anti-inflammatory properties of Turmeric and went on and on about some of the other benefits that come with it. We did a little research and found that there are actually some clinically proven benefits supporting the anti-inflammatory claims as well as the anti-oxidant properties together with some potential cognitive and gut health benefits. Anyway, how do you review something like this? I've been taking it for a few years now but there's no real way for me to say whether it works or not. I'm not dead, so I suppose it's not toxic (at least not immediately and not to me), I can't say that there are any negative side effects, I'm a 58 years old, fairly active, reasonably fit guy (beer gut notwithstanding) and I don't experience any significant joint pain (except in my knee, but that's from an over 30 years old motorcycle injury) so I guess I can't say that these don't work. They do have at least one minor issue, there are trace amounts of the turmeric that can be found on the outside of the capsules. This doesn't bother me much, but the turmeric powder does stain (which is why it is also used to lend color to certain recipes and even to dye textiles). My wife is loath to touch the capsules themselves because it can sometimes stain her nails which she has professionally done. This isn't an issue for me, but it does happen. Also, I wish they could find a way to further concentrate the active ingredients and make it one pill instead of two. Anyway, why the 5 stars? Because I can't say that they don't work (I guess), they are a good value for the price, and because I'm generally an optimist whenever I ingest something that doesn't kill me.Pros- Good value for price.- Turmeric has clinically proven benefits.- Hasn't killed me yet or caused any appreciable negative side effects.Cons- Residue on outside of capsules and container can stain fingers and nails.- Wish they could make these more concentrated and smaller.

I like these supplements enough to do a subscribe and save on them. The definitely reduce muscle pain for me.

I switched to another tumeric product because it was all natural, and had other nutrients in. I started having muscle pain after 3 to 4 weeks. I didn't realize that the amount of tumeric is essential to it's effectiveness. I am not going to make the same mistake twice. I order when there is a price decrease, and make sure I don't run out..

Before I start writing about this product, it would be worth mentioning that I am an Indian decent. I believe there is some value to this for couple of reasons. First, turmeric is an essential component of Indian cuisine and secondly, I have been seeing my great grandma and her 4 generations continuously vouching for turmeric as a first aid topically, and as a digestive aid orally (2 teaspoonful before bedtime right off the spice box). Fast forward to me (4th gen dude) who has been using turmeric not only anecdotally but also scientifically. I have a degree in Biopharmaceutical analysis and very well understand Pharmacokinetic aspects of a drug (Google ADME). Below are some facts to show how this product has gained my trust.1) Nutritional claim seem to be correct as stated on the label. I did my own analysis and lets leave it there.2) Product is more concentrated compared to curcumin found in powdered turmeric used in form of spice (both quantity and concentration)3) Orally palatable, no after taste, not a sure way to tell, but the capsule made from vegetable extracts should be better soluble compared to typical capsules made from animal products, example gelatin4) It is true that black pepper increases curcumin absorption. This product has 10:1 ratio of turmeric:blackpepper. This seems to be a standard5) As far as pharmacodynamic effects (what drug does to the body) are concerned, it remains to be checked. I plan to ask my MD to order some inflammation biomarkers tests and compared to my baseline results and see how they compare. I would also give a subjective assessment of muscle and joint aches compared to what they were before I started taking this product.6) Overall, I don't have any doubt that this product would meet my expectations. Highly recommend to anyone who is been tired of using typical pain meds (RX and OTCs) due to all the side effects. This is certainly a natural way. Don't get me wrong, curcumin is a chemical compound and am sure it is not free of side effects. However, if those side effects were that bad or that prevalent or a matter of concern from a long term exposure, Indians would have long thrown this out of their spice rack! Hope this helps.

I didn't do my research before purchasing this. Nothing against the seller. I purchased this for arthritis relief. Didn't help that. It gave me severe dry mouth and unexplained bruising. If you look up the side effects of turmeric you will see this. It is also a very high potency. It also acts a blood thinner, which I am already on. I did go to the doctor because of the dry mouth. I only took one a day, but even after one day of not taking it, my dry mouth is less severe. Most side effects of turmeric are upset stomach and diarrhea. My husband had that, I did not. So, unfortunately I have to throw it away since my window of return has expired. Also if you have high blood pressure, turmeric may increase it. Do your research before purchasing this.
