The Usborne Complete Book of Art Ideas (Usborne Art Ideas)

Great art book
This book is a compilation of several art books by Usborne, each of which is spectacular on their own. Thus, to find all of the books in one binding is a gold mine! The book is clearly written with lots of beautiful pictures that inspire even the youngest artists in your home. A friend of mine taught an art class to boys using ideas strictly from this book. Each project we tried in the class was a huge success. The range of media is extensive--watercolor, acrylic, collage, etc and the techniques are accompanied by helpful pictures and tips. I am not artistic, and so the step-by-step instructions that show what your piece should look like at each stage are useful. What makes this book stand out from the myriad of art-for-kids-books on the market is the professional nature of the products. They are not your everyday kid projects. My six-yo and I did fall scenes in watercolor, following the example in the book. Surprisingly, his turned out to be fantastic (mine wasn't bad either)! Definitely done by a 6 yo, but utilizing the techniques of composition, line, color and watercolor in the lesson. Effortless! It is so beautiful and charming, in a 6 yo way.I recommend this book for teachers or parents who want some great art ideas for themselves or kids.

Lots of information packed into one book
This is a really neat resource for teachers or art-loving kids. It's packed full of ideas, and the Index at the back allows for cross-referencing of different techniques or topics. It begins with projects organized by medium in a way that guides users to experiment and see the different things that can be done with each medium. The remainder of the book provides project ideas based on those basic skills, often using mixed media. (The book claims to be organized into three categories: Art Ideas, Art Skills, and Art Projects, but in the years I've owned this book, I haven't yet figured out how they determined what projects to place in which category. I think of the first section as being Basic Skills and Techniques, and the latter two sections as combining techniques. There's nothing separating the sections in the book itself, despite them being in three categories in the Table of Contents.)Projects are varied enough to provide fodder for younger and older students. (Hey, I've even found plenty of things I think would be fun to try!) This is my go-to resource for technique and project ideas for my kids.

Enough ideas to be a complete art curriculum
This book is divided into sections labeled Art Ideas, Art Skills, and Art Projects. They correspond to - and are exact reprints of - the original books The Usborne Book of Art Ideas, The Usborne Book of Art Skills, and the Usborne Book of Art Projects. I'm so glad they reprinted those three into one volume, as they are now out of print and sometimes very hard to find for a reasonable price. This book can be a complete art technique curriculum for older elementary or middle school students. There are enough projects in here to last several years. But even as an adult, this book really gets my creative juices flowing. The projects are simple, but not dumbed-down; detailed, but open-ended enough to encourage you to experiment on your own.

Great art book
Fantastic book. I have looked at tons of art project type books at the library and after finding this one I had to buy it. Great ideas, wonderful pictures, clear directions and all around a book worth having.I especially like the way they have made it a little smaller and put it together with a ring binder style so it is easy to keep open when working on a project. It would be especially useful for teachers looking for good projects with their class.

Awesome ideas for all ages!
I absolutely love this book! While it does have instructions, they are more brief and not so much like a step by step instruction textbook. The ideas are inspiring, modern, fun, colorful, and REALLY varied - and there are tons of them - applicable to ALL ages! I have both Dynamic Art Projects and Amazing Art Projects (Denise Logan) which in themselves are awesome books (more textbook style-start to finish specific projects) but you CAN'T beat Art Ideas for an endless array of stylish, fun, and varied art ideas. As an FYI, I homeschool through a public homeschool (you check out curriculum/kids go one day a week) and the formal art programs that the school offers for check out are so boring compared to this - the above books are what I use!

A must have for anyone teaching art
I love this book! I teach art classes after school and am a big fan of the Usborne art books. This one does not disappoint! Its 278 pages are literally jam packed with full color photos showing projects made with watercolors, pastels, chalk, and more. It has amazingly creative projects like prints made with rubber bands, mobiles made with dried bread cut into shapes and painted with acrylic paint, picture frames made out of foil food trays, robots made from ballpoint pen springs, metal washers, and ringpulls from drink cans (who would have thought?!) to name a few. Best of all, the lessons teach valuable art skills and concepts. If you want fun and worthwhile art lessons, buy this book. You won't be disappointed!*Note--In my experience, these lessons are best suited for ages 8 and up. Younger ones can do them, but will need lots of adult help.

Really this is a 10 star book
Despite the price, this book is worth every penny. THis book is really a compilation of 3 books in one so you are getting a very in depth & comprehensive scope of many ideas/techniques in one place. A must- have for art teachers from grade school to high school, scout leaders, art therapists, parents and grandparents, babysitters or anyone bringing art to people! These ideas can be used by artists of all ages and many of these ideas can be tweaked so you can put your own personal spin on them. For anyone that assists in art/crafts for seniors, this book will give you ideas & techniques that the elderly can do. As far as art books go, this one is as good as it gets. A go-to staple in any library for the creative soul.

molto utile e ben fatto
