For Now Not Bad
I was running the Fluval 306 canister and the Aqueon Quiet Flow 20 together on my 27gal cube tank. My tank is over stocked, but with small fish. It's my daughters tank in her room. I could never keep the water clear without add some chemical to the water every few days. I was using Acurel-F to clear up the water and it did work, but like I said I would have to use it every few days. I got the SunSun JUP-01 and installed it in the tank right away. I really didn't pay any attention to the tank for the rest of the day. Installed it around 2pm and got my daughter ready for bed at 8pm the water was a lot clear. The water always has a little cloudiness in it. Not a green tint. With the LED lights you can see if the water has any milky cloud in it easily. This morning I got my daughter ready for school and fed the fish and wow the water was clear. The only thing is I wish this had a water flow control to slow it down a little. 27gal cube the water flow of this thing is close to the output of my Fluval 306 canister. 18 fish in a fresh water 27gal tank and they don't look like they are being blown around. The air valve is kind of useless to have. It will blow air into the tank, but it makes a lot of small bubbles that float around all over the tank. In mot sure why that is an added feature. Another thing is the suction cups. They should have made tabs to easily remove the JUP-01 suction cups from the glass. When it's stuck to the glass, it's stuck to the glass. Not easy to remove. But all in all I have to say, it works.. For how long, who knows. UPDATE... Its been about a week now or better. I use to have to do a 25% or 50% water change a week when cleaning the tank. Looks like I don't have to do a thing to it now. Water is very clear. I don't see any reason to vacuum the rocks. My tank is over stocked and between the Fluval 306 and the SunSun looks like my tank is now stable. The SunSun is still working, I see the little window to check the light and its still on. Another UPDATE... Well the SUNSUN still works, but my daughter wanted a few more fish. I started watching the tank a little more and seen the fish were being blown around a little. I unplugged the SUNSUN and seen yeah it is the output is a little too much. Maybe my tank is too small for the water flow that is coming out of the SUNSUN. My tank is 20x20x20x20 in size, 27 gallon cube. On a 20gallon long or tall might be better for the SUNSUN. Like I said I wish it had a water output adjustment on it. Nothing wrong with the SUNSUN JUP-01. I bought the Aquatop UVE-9 because it has a water flow adjustment. I might get another tank and still use the SUNSUN on that.

This thing is Amazing!
I ordered this out of desperation. I have a 65 gallon tank that has never been clear in the two years we have had it. A few times it has been close to clear but not like my 36 gallon or 20 gallon tanks (which are always clear). I have blamed the substrate, the fresh veggies (for the Pleco), plants, lack of plants, filters, etc, etc... I was up to 2x 25% water changes each week and had added two Purgen filters (at $12 each) behind each carbon filter. But the before pictures below was the best I was getting. I ordered the UV filter on a whim but shortly after ordering it; I saw a couple of scary YouTube posts about it. Thankfully I also took a good deal of time reading all the long reviews here and ended up doing the following things that I would suggest for anyone else buying this for the first time: 1. The device arrives with a blue L shaped piece, a semi transparent hose and a black coupling. But not a word about what to do with them. I figured out from the pictures that the blue L goes into the blue input valve on top of the device (this it shows on the picture outside of the box, must remain above the water line). I surmised from online videos that the hose attaches to the blue L and the black coupling on the other end. I clipped these with the little S clip on the hose to my existing air hose at the point where it exits the tank. I believe air comes into the pump via this hose, if so, you don't want water to get in it. (I included pictures of how I have this set up.) 2. This was likely the most important tip from these reviews. The scary YouTube warnings about this product show after it running for a while in the tank the owners took the device out to discover a black goo substance on the inside of the black plastic housing (it goes over the glass lamp cover). One video said he believed this killed his fish. Well in my opinion that is because that plastic part and the glass over the bulb, both arrive with some lubricant goo on them, it's clear on arrival but I can imagine after a while in the tank it wouldn't be clear anymore. So I followed the several other review recommendations and did the following: * removed the plastic and glass housings * removed the plastic at the end of the bulb and threw it away * washed the black plastic parts and the glass tube that goes over the bulb with warm soapy water and dried them * verified the glass bulb cover had the plastic ring first on followed by the black ring last on for a water tight seal (mine were not removable like some of the online pictures show) * lastly after I assembled it all I ran the UV filter overnight in a 5gallon home depo bucket. * in the morning I took it out and took it apart to verify no water got inside of the glass bulb cover. I put the UV filter in my tank at 6:00am on Monday (that is when the before pictures were taken). I took the after pictures at 6:00am on Thursday (72 hours later). I could not be more pleased!

Very happy with results.
I have a well established 29 gallon fresh water tank with an AquaClear 30 and a standard undergravel filter. Everything had been going great for several years and then two month's ago I had a huge algae bloom and my water turned green. I have tried changing the water several times and turned off the light for over a week and the green water just keeps coming back. After reading about UV sterilizers I thought I would give it a try. When the package arrived on Monday (5 days ago) I opened the box, and took the filter apart to check the quartz tube and o-rings before putting in my tank. Like some of the other reviewers, I noticed some grease on the tube but this was easily wiped off. Having dealt with o-rings in plumbing and pools for awhile I know the grease is required for a good assembly. After the inspection I placed the filter (Sterilizer) in the tank and noticed I could not see it at the back of the tank because of the green water. By the next morning there was a noticeable clearing of the water and I could now make out the outline of the filter in the back of the tank. Over the next 3 days the tank cleared up more and more each day and this morning the tank is crystal clear :) There are a few issues with the filter... it is bigger than expected, and the force of the water coming out is way stronger than any powerhead I have, it blows the fish around. I am going to figure out a way to plug some of the output to reduce the flow and also put it on a timer to run several hours a day from now on. I will update this review after I have had it for several months.

Works Fine, BUT DANGEROUS FOR KUHLIS
I have been running this filter for a couple of months now in our office aquarium where I have been struggling with a brown diatom problem almost since day one. This little workhorse has been the ONLY thing to get my cloudy water clear again. With the help of frequent filter cleanings and water changes, I have finally had a beautiful tank for a couple of months. HOWEVER, that being said, there are a couple of issues that owners should know. 1) MOST IMPORTANTLY, as I just today found out, this filter is a death trap for kuhli loaches. I bought a dozen and added them to the tank yesterday. Just a few minutes ago, I looked up and saw one with his head caught in the teeny, tiny intake holes. He could not get out and was wedged so thoroughly that neither could I. I had to euthanize him and basically, I'm pretty distraught over it. As I was trying to get him out, I found three kuhlis curled up (and alive) in the suction cups on the back and one more tucked inside the top and bottom piece (dead). As small as these holes are, if you keep small critters like kulis who are known for hiding, they will get in this and die. Wrap with screen or mesh or a stocking or something. I'm still figuring out what to do. I have it out of my tank in the mean time. 2) I did see this in another review, but this filter turns over water FAST. I do not have any slow swimmers in my tank, but this will wreck a tank with angels, etc. My fish love the current, but it does also mess with surface-floating plants, so corral them carefully. 3) Instructions for assembly were terrible. It did not tell me where to place this in the tank, and I ended up submerging it entirely at first. I checked the box, and there was a little note telling me NOT to do that, but luckily, it still worked fine. Also, the little blue snorkel piece was never explained. I had to google about three different videos to see what the heck it was used for. Evidently it's too connect airline tubing, so I didn't use it because I didn't need it. Overall, once I figure out how to protect my fish from it now, I will return to using it, but because of my new additions, it is not safe for my tank. It did, however, do exactly as it said it would and clean my tank. Please exercise caution when adding this sterilizer to your tank.

Have an algae problem? Get this!
So, I don't often write reviews (in fact, this may be my first one), but this Sun Sun UV sterilizer works wonders! I'm relatively new to fish keeping and fell victim to a huge algae bloom. I tried everything with cleanings, water changes, switching out filter media, checking phosphates, using phosphate removing media.. the gambit. Nothing was getting it under control. Until I bought this product! I have a 90 gallon tank so it took quite a few days of constant running to do the job, but boy did it do the job. The tank is the clearest it's ever been and remaining crystal clear. A few side notes: 1) The directions are less than stellar, but setup/installation is pretty basic 2) Definitely disassemble the product when you get it and pull out the bulb, then clean all of the submersible plastics, prefilter, and sleeve. There was some oily substance used on them that I didn't want becoming a health hazard for the fish 3) inside the sleeve that goes around the bulb was a small rubber/plastic piece used to protect the bulb during shipping. MAKE SURE you pull that out. I read other reviews and horror stories about that melting and killing off fish before I purchased. So, because the directions make no mention of this, consider this a friendly reminder.

Very bad.
There are so many reasons to not like this I don't know where to begin. I'll limit them to 3 starting with the dangerously strong water flow. Even at the lowest setting the current this creates is SO strong I was afraid it would kill my angelfish. This pump is not appropriate for any fish who live naturally in calm or still waters such as angelfish. The next problem is the absolutely terrible quality and plastics. This thing is made very cheaply and the plastic feels inferior, as if it would break or crack under any stress at all. I'm not willing to risk my living room to save a few bucks. The third problem is the sheer size of it. It's MASSIVE and takes up so much space inside my tank that I felt it wasn't worth it. I didn't use it long enough to determine if it actually worked because the current was so strong I didn't want to leave it in with my angelfish, I presume this does actually work but so other UV filters which are better designed and manufactured. I returned it within hours of installing. I'm not going to mention the absolutely horribly translated instructions or the fact that the quartz sleeve came covered with what appeared to be vaseline or mineral oil...

Miracle!!!
I am giving this item 5 stars, not because it cleared my tank, because it has kept my tank crystal clear since adding it to it. We have a 65 gallon aquarium, we recently made a boo boo and our tank got bacteria bloom, the water looked like someone had dropped a box of Alka Seltzer in it, so very cloudy. I did some research, went out and bought live plants, Nitrogen remover, nothing worked. So I ordered this, did not have any idea what wattage I should buy, just desperate. It came in the mail, put it in the tank, noticed nothing the first day, the next day, only noticed a slight clearing where the filter was, next day no change. Maybe I was not patient enough, but my daughter and I had the feeling we should do a partial water change. We drained about 50 percent of the water out of the tank, refilled it, treated the water, and have been running this filter on a timer 8 hours a day. I cannot believe how beautiful the tank looks. The water is so clear. Just beautiful!!!! I would recommend getting one, the maintenance and stress are now gone. I am about to order another one for my quarantine tank.

Unfunctional UV bulb
This filter worked great until I went to clean my tank yesterday and cleaned the filter taking it apart to rinse it out and clean the filter sponge. I noticed something wrong and unsure how long it has honestly been like that! It did not run all the time just 1 day a week max. I have had this UV Filter in my tank less than 3 months and the UV light bulb took on water, so is unusable at this time due to safety.
