Q: Can you drink from it with the lid off, doesnt show a picture with lid off ?

I drink from mine with the lid off all the time when at home. My tea stays warm for ages, much better than a china mug.

Q: It arrived yesterday in a see though plastic bag not even sealed. Should this arrive in any packaging or box? I don’t mean Amazon packaging.

Yes the 2 I ordered came in cardboard boxes with the name of the company on it and instructions with it. Do you think you may have bought a seconds or used one.

Q: How hard/easy is it to press the drink and lock buttons? Wondering if it's safe to be near my toddler? Thanks

Once locked it would be completely safe. Without locking if might be possible for and an agile fingered 4 year old to make some liquid come out. I never lock mine but I don't have an inquisitive 4 year old in the house! But cup I have ever owned - and I have owned many! You will not be disappointed!
